Job Description
The Associate Scientific Project Manager provides support across the full range of sequencing operations at New York Genome Center (NYGC). This includes day-to-day management of scientific collaborations, involvement in the consultation process with potential customers, supporting grant/contract management, and assisting senior managers with daily scientific tasks or projects. In addition, the Associate Scientific Project Manager is responsible for tracking inquiries, projects, action items, and deadlines, and organizing all supporting information.



Key Responsibilities


The Associate Scientific Project Manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Collate sequencing inquiries and track and document follow-up action items and progress;
  • Work closely with senior members of the project management team in order to learn, in-depth, about NYGC’s sequencing operations. This will include familiarizing oneself, in great detail, with:
  • Provide support for the project management team on specific projects and interact cross-functionally across NYGC teams;
  • Gather information for various reports/presentations/projections, digest and analyze the data;
  • Track production lab and methods development protocol improvements and testing, draft presentations and/or white papers outlining testing and results;
  • Assist more senior team members with the day-to-day management of production projects, internal and external to NYGC;
  • Generate and submit quotes to investigators, ensure signed Terms and Conditions are received, manage sales orders, and coordinate project invoicing with Finance;
  • Interact cross-functionally in NYGC to troubleshoot laboratory, sequencing, pipeline, and bioinformatics issues;
  • Bioinformatics capabilities;
  • Represent the project management team at various internal operations meetings (i.e. Quality Management);
  • Any other duties, as requested.
  • Assist with organizing meetings (coordinate timing, conference rooms, etc.);
  • Work with PIs on routine questions around sample submission and sequencing processes;
  • Single cell and single nuclei sequencing technologies and techniques;
  • Join project inquiry phone calls with more senior PMs;
  • Review, track, collate, and provide data to internal and external stakeholders (e.g. sequencing run and data QC statistics over a large project);
  • Software engineering and data delivery operations; and
  • Data usage and storage management.
  • Contribute to developing and drafting the scientific and administrative pieces necessary for various grant and contract applications; and
  • Independently monitor sequencing projects at various stages of processing, reviewing QC and pushing samples through various processing steps without delay;
  • Maintain exceptional and timely record keeping for all projects and processes in Jira;
  • NYGC’s sequencing operations and production lines;
  • Illumina sequencing capabilities and operations;


Position Requirements


  • Experience with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets is required;
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills are required;
  • Ability to quickly identify and address problems, analyze data, learn new and complex techniques, and implement/troubleshoot solutions required;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills are required, with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment;
  • Motivated individual with the ability to efficiently multi-task, work under pressure, handle interruptions, and meet deadlines required;
  • Experience managing scientific projects preferred;
  • Excellent professionalism and customer service in dealing with a wide range of constituents are required;
  • Relevant hands-on experience in a NGS laboratory is preferred;
  • Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System), SQL, or other large database management tools required;
  • Ability to work independently and in a highly collaborative and supportive team environment required.
  • Advanced degree in Genetics or a related field of study required;
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are required, with the ability to build relationships at all levels;
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and deadlines required;
  • A self-directed individual who is capable of taking initiative and assuming responsibility required; and

Work Flexibility


NYGC has established a flexible work policy to give employees and other staff more ability to balance their work, personal commitments, and commuting challenges. The incumbent in this position is eligible for a flexible work schedule or hybrid remote work arrangement with supervisory approval.



Salary


The expected salary range for this role is $90,000 - 96,000 per year. The full pay range for this position is $85,000 - 111,000 per year; base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, NYGC offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits as well as generous time off.



About The New York Genome Center


The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit, academic research organization dedicated to advancing genomic research. NYGC scientists and staff are furthering new approaches to diagnosing and treating neurological diseases and cancer through their unique capabilities in whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, state-of-the art analytics, and the development of genomic tools. NYGC concentrates specifically on disease-based research in the following areas: neuropsychiatric disease (autism, schizophrenia, bipolar); neurodegenerative disease (ALS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s), and cancer.
