Job Summary
Provides personalized research services support to internal VUMC faculty and staff members, as well as to external research colleagues, on a very diverse platform of research projects with some guidance. Consults on research and regulatory issues to identify solutions and develop improvement processes.

The Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical & Translational Research (VICTR) is Vanderbilt’s virtual home for clinical and translational research. Supported by Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Office of Research and the NIH-sponsored Clinical and Translational Service Award (CTSA), the mission of the institute is to transform the way ideas and research discoveries make their way from origin to patient care. VICTR functions to help researchers and clinicians do their jobs better by providing tools and support to improve the quality of research, publications, grant writing, and training for future doctors and researchers. Key Responsibilities
  • Provides research support and services, inclusive of IRB regulatory submissions, to all levels of research colleagues.
  • The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.
  • Analyzes results and assists in the development of a preventive action plan for potential discrepancies.
  • Provides expertise to departments, institutional committees, Investigators, research staff, and students on procedures and operating practices for the research community on human research protections and good clinical practices.
  • Conducts internal and external audits of research at periodic intervals to identify and analyze data errors, data discrepancies, process errors, and deviations from study protocols to assure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures.
  • Develops and implements quality assurance and regulatory plans/projects for the VU research community, programs, and departments to assure compliance with all applicable requirements; interprets regulatory requirements and recommends activities and resources required to support them.
Technical Capabilities
  • Technology Services: Has training in using available digital tools and products and understands the use of digital services in the research community. Has demonstrated basic knowledge of content creation and awareness of the importance of design usability and accessibility to determine user experience.
  • Regulatory Services (Fundamental Awareness): Has training in or has a basic understanding of federal, state, and local laws, guidance documents, GCP/ICH guidelines, VUMC Institutional policies, and HRPP/IRB policies. Has knowledge of or light exposure to tracking the progress of clinical research protocols through each step of the regulatory/administrative process.
  • Research Services (Novice): Demonstrates the ability to assist researchers and clinicians in improving the quality of research and grants by connecting investigators with resources/funding opportunities, assisting in identifying collaborators, identifying and summarizing existing information, and assisting in developing tools to further the research enterprise. Demonstrates awareness of barriers to optimal study execution, assists in developing solutions to those barriers, and supports identifying resources needed for the timely & successful completion of research projects. Assists in providing available resources for preparing grant proposals, identifying study funding, ongoing financial management safety committees, IRB submissions, scientific review submissions, study feasibility, recruitment methods, data management, and study implementation. May assist in the development of study budgets and billing grids to facilitate capture of all study costs and compliance with regulations.
