Job Description

ARE YOU READY TO TAKE YOUR CAREER TO NEW HEIGHTS? ARE YOU SEEKING A NEW CHALLENGE IN A DYNAMIC SECTOR?

This is a very exciting and highly innovative time here at Outside.

OUR TRUE NORTH:

Outside Interactive, Inc., the premier hub for active lifestyle enthusiasts, offers best-in-class content and experiences to more than 70 million of the world’s most passionate outdoor, wellness, and endurance enthusiasts every month. We inspire a broad and diverse audience to do the activities they love with great enjoyment, inspiration, and knowledge. We are dedicated to making fundamental changes in the outdoor and fitness industries. Day after day, story after story, Outside Interactive, Inc., proves that a hike, a climb, a run, a ride, a day skiing, or a yoga practice can change lives - and change the world.

As the Product Manager for Gaia GPS, you’ll own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for our premier backcountry navigation application. We staff our product teams with the skills necessary to come up with effective solutions that are valuable (our customers choose to buy or use), viable (the solution works within the many constraints of the business), usable (the user can figure out how to use) and feasible (our engineers have the skills and technology to implement).

While the product designer is accountable for ensuring the solution is usable, and the engineers are accountable for ensuring the solution is feasible, the product manager is accountable for ensuring the solution is both valuable and viable.

This means that the product manager must contribute to his/her product team a solid knowledge of the various constraints of Gaia GPS – for example Maps, Marketing, Customer Service, Finance, and Privacy. The product manager must also contribute to the product team a deep knowledge of our users and customers, and the data about how our customers engage with our products. Finally, the product manager is expected to track industry trends and the competitive landscape as they pertain to their product.

What you will do:

  • Help us achieve our vision and execute our strategy by uncovering and developing new ideas for our brands.
  • Write product briefs and user stories, and collaborate with your partners in marketing, engineering, and design to ship features that we are proud of and that our members love.
  • Define and own the metrics of success. Evangelize those metrics throughout the company, and use them to drive insights and new product hypotheses.
  • Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders to effectively build, launch and communicate new product features.
  • Enable high-quality, timely execution in a fast-paced, iterative environment with a team of talented engineers and designers
  • Fill in the gaps - you should have a little bit of context on everything and be able to unblock the teams at all costs
  • Make tough tactical prioritization decisions, balancing short-term needs with long-term product direction for our brands.
  • Provide strong mentorship, guidance, and leadership to junior team members, fostering their professional growth and development while ensuring a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Contribute to Gaia GPS product development with an outward, forward-looking perspective that melds business goals, customer needs, and market context
  • Discover and validate new product opportunities for Gaia GPS.
  • Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Gaia GPS and ensure that it aligns with the overall product and company vision of inspiring people to get outside.

This describes you:

  • Your strong commitment to user experience shines through in your work, as you genuinely care about creating exceptional mobile and web mapping experiences. You have a keen eye for detail and appreciate the significance of the "little things" that contribute to making the reading experience delightful for users.
  • You have excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • You have experience with customer research and know how to get feedback at the right time from the right customers to help inform your product decisions.
  • You have 3+ years of product management experience, working on consumer applications or mapping products where you’ve demonstrated your ability to discover, define and deliver product opportunities.
  • You have a profound background in business to consumer product management, with a portion of your career dedicated to making order from chaos.
  • You’re entrepreneurial-minded and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You handle uncertainty with confidence. You are execution-focused and driven to ship great products to customers.
  • You have experience with modern software development and delivery practices.
  • You have demonstrated experience collaborating closely with product designers and engineers to ship high-quality products that delight users.

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of at least one programming language.
  • You have a solid background in working with geographic content, including maps, trails, map layers, and mapping products. Your experience encompasses products where maps play a crucial role in delivering an exceptional user experience, particularly in the context of outdoor adventure. Your expertise in this area allows you to effectively integrate and optimize map-related functionalities, enhancing the overall user experience and ensuring seamless navigation in outdoor settings.
  • Your expertise lies in seamlessly integrating signals, deriving insight from those signals and taking action to ultimately measure your decisions. Through your experience, you have demonstrated a deep understanding of how these different content formats can complement each other, resulting in compelling and engaging experiences.
  • You possess hands-on experience with OpenStreetMap, ESRI, or consumer / enterprise mapping applications.
  • You have a systematic approach to designing customer facing features focused on user experience, leveraging your expertise to enhance user engagement, monetization strategies, and overall customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to write SQL queries or knowledge of comparable business analytics tools.
