The Science & Innovation team oversees the Society’s grantmaking efforts in science, conservation and technology, develops and manages major mission programs, and establishes programmatic partnerships with like-minded non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
The Pristine Seas media team produces world-class, award-winning documentary films that inspire the creation of marine protected areas and further the mission of the National Geographic Society. The Pristine Seas media team creates a wide array of media with tangible conservation impact at the highest standard of quality.
Your Impact
Responsibilities Include
  • Deliverables and Legal Documentation (40%): The Associate Producer maintains all legal documentation throughout the production. The Associate Producer will work with the Producer and Production Manager to finalize and deliver all required deliverables to network on time. The Associate Producer is responsible for reviewing, researching, collecting, and filing legal documents with an emphasis on stock footage, music, appearance releases and location permits. The Associate Producer completes the ‘Legal Binder' for each project and archives all project assets.
  • Production Coordination (40%): Working in collaboration with the Showrunner and Producers, the AP is responsible for coordinating the pre-production, field shoots, and post-production phases of a media project. During pre-production, this person secures location permits, coordinates logistics, makes travel arrangements, creates call sheets, and organizes shoot documents for the team heading out into the field. During post-production, the AP assists the Production team with media management and long-term organization of media assets.
  • Footage Research (20%): The Associate Producer researches stock footage and photos, working closely with the Producers and to determine needs. The Associate Producer must search multiple footage databases and proactively seek out new sources of stock footage. The AP is responsible for providing footage with appropriate rights clearances for the video project’s use, working with the Legal department to check and track footage rights throughout the editing process.
What You’ll Bring
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
Minimum Years And Type Of Experience
2+ years of experience in a Production office environment, preferably with large shoots, and documentary film production
Necessary Knowledge and Skills
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere editing software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, as well as the Google Office suite.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to appropriately prioritize tasks.
  • While in-depth technical skills are not required, the successful candidate must be familiar with all aspects of production in order to communicate effectively with the team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of the processes and workflows of media production.

As a leading nonprofit organization, National Geographic Society offers competitive salary and total rewards to attract, develop, and retain an innovative and dynamic workforce.
The salary range for this position starts at $58,000.
Job Designation
