Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

This position is part of the SPX Engineering Development Program, an early career leadership program that trains and prepares employees for future leadership roles within the organization. We highly encourage new graduates in mechanical or manufacturing engineering to apply for this position!

As an Associate-Sustaining Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the continued performance, reliability, and safety of our products throughout their lifecycle. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, manufacturing, quality assurance, and customer support, to identify and resolve technical issues, implement design improvements, and support product enhancements. Your role will be critical in maintaining and improving the quality and performance of our products in the market, as well as providing technical support to internal and external stakeholders.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and analyze field data and customer feedback to identify product performance trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including product specifications, engineering change orders, and reports, to ensure accurate and up-to-date product information.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain/Purchasing to evaluate and select components, materials, and technologies to meet product requirements and improve product performance.
  • Develop and execute testing and validation plans to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, industry best practices, and customer requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Conduct technical analysis and troubleshooting of products to identify and resolve issues related to performance, reliability, and safety.
  • Participate in product design reviews, risk assessments, and root cause analyses to identify and mitigate potential product issues and improve product performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, manufacturing, quality assurance, and customer support, to drive product improvements and implement design changes.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders, including customers, sales teams, and service technicians, by addressing inquiries, resolving technical issues, and providing product documentation and training.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field. Master's degree is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Basic understanding of drawings /blueprints, is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex technical issues and provide solutions.
  • Knowledge of boiler codes, standards, and regulations, such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, is a plus.
  • Mathematical skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Working knowledge of FEA, CREO, Windchill or similar programs.
  • Working knowledge of material grades, types and specifications
  • Experience with boiler control systems, automation, and Internet of Things (loT) technologies, is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in CAD.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience with product testing, validation, and compliance with regulatory standards, such as ASME, CSA, and ANSI.
  • Proficiency in engineering tools and software, such as CAD, FEA, Windchill and simulation tools.
