Investment Management is a key organizational function whose stakeholders include the board of directors, senior management, regulators, and credit rating agencies. The process of investing capital must meet regulatory requirements while at the same time balance the desire for income, maximizing the economic value of the portfolio and managing risk. This exciting cash management role will help to define and lead a cash management trading desk focused on optimizing UnitedHealth Group’s yield on its cash and cash equivalents.
The Cash Manager will lead the process to recommend an investment policy with respect to cash investing and establish a cash trading desk that will be primarily focused on maximizing cash returns while ensuring all compliance and risk management objectives are met. This position will work with other Treasury team members to introduce new cash investment tools that meet the needs and objectives of UnitedHealth Group and establish policies and procedures with respect to operating a cash trading desk. In addition, this position will be responsible for establishing the framework, risk management, reporting and controls with respect to cash investing. This position will look for opportunities to improve the efficiencies of UnitedHealth Group’s cash management processes including ways to drive down bank fee costs. Lastly, this position will be responsible for reporting and monitoring bank concentration risk and exposures as well as ensuring all federal and state regulatory requirements are met.
- Update existing models and reports using internally approved methodologies and processes. Coordinate inputs from many sources while managing tight deadlines and priorities
- Understand the cash needs of the different regulated entities and devise investment strategies to best meet the objectives
- Provide research and decision support related to special projects as needed
- Be a subject matter expert with respect to investment tools such as exchange traded funds (ETFs), repurchase agreement investments (REPOs) and buying and selling U.S. Treasuries or other similar instruments
- Document processes and establish control procedures for all internal and external reporting related to cash investing
- Process overall market, economic and investment information from outside sources and apply it utilizing appropriate statistical techniques to identify and measure the potential risks to UHG’s cash investments
- Establish weekly cash investment reporting with respect to counterparty risk, performance and compliance
- Research and document regulatory limits with respect to cash investment categories and implement monitoring and control measures to ensure cash investments are within required limits
- Manage a cash investment trading desk including assessing and implementing new investment options
- Recommend and implement an investment policy specific to cash investments
- Create, participate in, and assist with the preparation of monthly and quarterly cash investment reports
- Be a part of a high-performing cross-functional Treasury team and lead and guide decisions with respect to cash investing
- Be knowledgeable of all UnitedHealth Group’s (UHG) investment policies and guidelines and their applicability to relevant UHG entities, portfolios, and outside advisors
- Proven excellent verbal and written communication
- Demonstrated basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point and Word)
- 5+ years of experience in banking or corporate treasury with specific trading and investment experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Math, Actuarial Science or significantly related field
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented and time sensitive environment that blends the structure of monthly and quarterly reporting deadlines with the dynamics of a changing financial market and business conditions
- Proven solid analytical (quantitative and qualitative) and problem-solving skills
- Solid understanding of the operational framework needed across several functions to efficiently transact
- MBA
- ESG emphasis education/experience
- Progress towards the CFA designation
