The Associate Director of Program Management is a key leadership role and reports to the Director of PMO for the Laboratory Plastics Essentials business.

You will have a leading position within our $1B annual revenue Laboratory Plastics Essentials business where we provide industry leading consumables and solutions. You will drive the new product introduction of a large complex, multi-disciplinary program with several project core teams including external partners/OEM’s to launch electro-mechanical hardware, software, and connectivity products that meet critical customer needs. This includes overall program accountability and being a trusted partner to business leaders in making strategic business decisions regarding the products under development. You will engage Agile development practices and drive intensity to meet project commitments with a multi-million annual R&D budget. This role has high visibility within and outside the business unit and requires exceptional facilitation, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities - your work will make an impact!

  • Leads the program management operating mechanisms, including tailoring the product development stage gate process, core team operations, project scheduling, risk management, decision making, etc
  • Uses experience to proactively predict typical project challenges on the horizon and devises mitigating actions to address
  • Leads process improvement to ensure standard methodologies are demonstrated effectively and consistently
  • Coaches team and other project managers on decision making and problem-solving approaches to remove obstacles, especially Thermo Fisher’s Practical Process Improvement (PPI) process to navigate project challenges
  • Acts as the “general manager” responsible for all day-to-day operational aspects and delivering on commitments. Has direct line of communication with the Vice President & General Manager, Liquid Handling Solutions.
  • Makes recommendations on the content and phasing of the 5-year roadmap and presents insights on portfolio performance to business leadership and corporate executives
  • Owns strategic deployment and critical metrics for the program
  • Leads distributed team internally as well as OEM relationship externally and off-shore development in partnership with R&D
  • Has accountability for post-launch performance in key areas such as revenue, lead times, quality / reliability, and margin
  • Ensures the portfolio of programs meet scope, timing, cost, and revenue commitments

Key requirements - how you will get here?

  • Competency in MS suite of applications - as well as MS Project
  • 5+ years professional experience in leading cross-functional teams, prefer 7+ years experience
  • BS in engineering or other technical degree. Mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering preferred
  • Experience leading complex product teams through system integration of hardware, software, equipment, and associated consumables

Key competencies & skills:

  • Knows FDA-regulated environments and experience successfully launching medical devices or in vitro diagnostic
  • Given the prominent position in the organization, experience leading and developing talent through mentoring, coaching and growth/career planning is desired
  • Builds effective core teams that have a diverse mix of styles and experience and a sense of belonging
  • Financial competence
  • PMP or equivalent certification preferred
  • Knowledge of lean six sigma methodology
  • Understands the intricacies of product development of technical / connected product solutions in a regulated environment
