We have an exciting opportunity within Medical Affairs for an Associate Director, Medical Affairs Operations. This role within Medical Affairs will ensure successful planning and execution of medical activities and delivery of critical initiatives to support the business. The incumbent will ensure alignment across various stakeholders maintaining project plans that include timelines and approved budgets to ensure adherence to plan and/or risk mitigation development.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities


The candidate will work in partnership with the Director, Medical Affairs and the Leadership Team to manage relevant departmental operations.
  • Assist with other duties related to the Medical Affairs Operations function qualifications
  • Develop meetings reports
  • Scientific coverage
  • Participation in Therapeutic Area Cross-Functional teams as the Medical Affairs expert Manage an end-to-end process to include planning discussions, contract execution, vendor management for all Medical Affairs projects, medical grants and sponsorships
  • Publications management: alignment/tracking of regional plans, management/tracking of publication reviews and approvals, understanding of good publication practice
  • Collaborate with Public Affairs, Corporate, and Employee Communications to drive an external communications plan for community education and disease awareness and clinical milestones
  • Cross-functional partners will include but not be limited to: Public Relations, Medical Affairs, Clinical Operations, Clinical Research, Regulatory, Legal, and Business Development
  • Medical Affairs website
  • Lead operational aspects to drive successful medical presence at key medical congress activities, including but not limited to:
  • Perform subject-specific literature reviews to assist the organization in staying abreast of the scientific landscape and developments
  • Proactively build and maintain relationships with patients, caregivers, and advocates for people living with metabolic diseases and cancer around Terns’ pipeline products with majority of responsibilities focused on chronic myeloid leukemia and other upcoming oncology programs
  • Post-Conference Debrief
  • Tracking/management on the development of core decks, lexicons, scientific communication platforms, etc
  • Provide support for the following Medical Affairs systems and applications
  • Delivers operational and scientific support for the Medical Affairs strategy and ensures their successful implementation
  • Oversee Fair Market Value evaluations for prospective consultants
  • Pre- and Post-Congress training & coordination
  • Learning Management System
  • Work in association with cross-functional partners to identify and coordinate the development and implementation of a comprehensive Key Opinion Leaders and Patient Advocacy Groups engagement strategy, aligned with Medical Affairs objectives.
  • Congress Planning: serve as the key point of contact
  • Provide strategic operations leadership for all key strategic Medical Affairs programs as it relates to research support, educational offerings, cross-functional initiatives, and projects, and forward-looking operational planning


Knowledge/Skills


  • Ability to interact with senior management, academic experts and patient advocates appropriately, with confidence and ease
  • Prior experience in communications or medical affairs is highly desired
  • Bachelors degree with 6 years of relevant experience or Masters degree with 3 years of experience or Ph.D. or PharmD with 1 year of experience required.
  • Experience in patient advocacy, community engagement, and issues management
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal customers and cross-functional teams
  • Strong demonstrated excellence in developing/growing a functional area
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated success in influencing individuals, and groups outside the immediate control
  • Success in managing highly complex multiple projects simultaneously
  • A passion for engaging in public health and policy issues


The US base salary range for this full-time position is $160,000 -$190,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
