Job Description

The Associate Athletics Director for Sport Operations provides executive management of the department’s sport administration strategic priorities and initiatives as outlined by the Director of Athletics. Responsibilities include supervision of assigned sports, coordination of strategic initiatives related to sports programs, liaison roles with key external units within Athletics and training of sports staffs. This position serves as a member of the Athletics Director’s Cabinet (AD Cabinet), Athletics Leadership Team and Sport Administrator Group, reporting directly to the Director of Athletics.


Primary Accountabilities


  • Lead strategic initiatives for sports programs. Manage all stages of planning and implementation on departmental-wide projects as outlined by the Director of Athletics. Execute the Director’s vision for generating and allocating resources to support and foster sports program success within the current intercollegiate athletics landscape. Conduct research, analyze data and make recommendations. Advise and educate AD Cabinet and Head Coaches on strategic planning, departmental initiatives, policies and procedures.


Strategic planner for high level and confidential inquiries, coordinating the development of action plans to address them, and the preparation and dissemination of communications. Collaborate with Head Coaches to deliver measurable outcomes on time and within budget. Manage departmental processes for review and approval of all sports season schedules and game contracts. Assist with budget development for sports as assigned. Coordinate all Departmental planning efforts for post-season (e.g., MAC , bowl, NCAA ) administrative travel parties and related activities.


  • Foster sport program engagement in resource generation. Lead collaboration between specific sports programs and assigned Athletics units, including Fan Engagement/Marketing and Brand Development to implement marketing and external engagement strategies. Serve as liaison between development officers and coaching staffs to effectively plan and engage sports program activities in fundraising. Collaborate on Ohio Athletics development cultivation and donor outreach initiatives, to include acknowledgements and personal correspondence, departmental communication to alumni and donors, coordinating high level logistical functions related to activities, special events and projects that require multiple constituents.
  • Design and delivery of training and development programs for assistant coaches and sports operations staff, in collaboration with the Senior Associate Athletics Director/ CFAO , to improve efficiencies and foster compliance with business operations/HR policies and protocols. Coordinate Leadership Team activities designed for staff professional development, in collaboration with the Director of Athletics.
  • Supervise assigned sports programs as determined by the Director of Athletics.


Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree


A minimum of 3 years of related work and 1 year of management experience


Preferred Qualifications


Master’s degree
