Job Description

The Smith College English Department invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in creative writing, with a specialty in fiction writing, at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2024. Courses to be taught include an introductory workshop in fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction, and intermediate and advanced fiction workshops. We welcome candidates working in speculative or other forms of genre fiction. Creative writing is one of two emphases or tracks available in the English major, and we hope that the person who fills this position will assume, over time, a significant role in shaping our creative writing track. The College’s standard teaching load is 2/2 plus, with the plus defined as advising theses or other independent projects.

Applicants should have an MFA or equivalent terminal degree in creative writing. We expect them to have as well a strong record of publication along with significant teaching experience and a clear pedagogical vision.
