Job Description
Assists in the day to day preschool classroom responsibilities in accordance with licensing and Y standards. Ensures a safe and positive environment for the Pre-K children.


Starting at $14/hr

  • Commitment and desire to provide premiere child care services at all levels.
  • Manages staff-to-child ratios within licensing standards and according to Y policies for classroom coverage.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to meet licensing requirements.
  • Contributes to the overall YMCA mission of healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.
  • Be a team player with all staff; will assist in other areas as requested.
  • Be able to take over in the lead teachers absence and incorporate written lesson plans.
  • Cleans and picks up areas used by the program daily.
  • Observes, assesses and contributes to the compilation of the child’s portfolio on a regular basis.
  • Assist the lead teacher in lesson planning, as requested.
  • Prepares materials, activities and environment ahead of time, as needed or assigned.
  • Communicates program issues to lead teacher or director.
  • Active involvement with, and supervision of children required at all times.
  • Previous child care experience preferred.
  • All child care staff are mandated by the state of Kansas and Missouri to report suspected child abuse and neglect and must notify appropriate staff of any suspected abuse, unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents or injuries immediately.
  • Has the ability to work with children with or without special needs.
  • Apply principles of quality early childhood education and programming.
  • Monitors equipment and facility for safety and security purposes and follows through on concerns in a timely manner.
