We are seeking an Assistant Group Supervisor to partner with the Group Supervisor to lead and inspire 70+ members of the Housekeeping Group to achieve group and department goals by redefining and communicating a compelling vision of optimal partnering with our lab-wide stakeholders. The Assistant Group Supervisor will be responsible for defining expectations, providing performance coaching, and fostering the development of staff for the group. They will work closely with the Group Supervisor, as well as leadership across the Laboratory, to maximize the impact to the organization, build and sustain a culture of perfection and cross-enterprise collaboration.


As an Assistant Group Supervisor you will focus on these key business areas...


Execution


Your primary responsibility will be to interact daily with the Group Supervisor to develop work schedules and meet performance objectives. You will help motivate, develop, and direct staff to achieve high performance levels. You will work with staff to set annual goals/objectives. You will collaborate with the Group Supervisor on HR related actions such as hiring, performance management, staff recognition, reclassifications and staff accountability. You will champion diversity and innovation while ensuring the exchange of information within and beyond the section. Inspire and empower staff on problem solving, diversity of thought, inclusion and continuous improvement. You will seek partner feedback and address opportunities/challenges related to housekeeping services and taking corrective actions to resolve any concerns. Participate with Section Supervisors to make recommendations to improve service and ensure efficient and consistent operations across zones. You will collaborate with Section Supervisors to develop work schedules and workloads to ensure efficient services are being applied and support the ongoing process of evaluating and reviewing equipment needs along with new products and cleaning practices as well as research and implementing new technologies. You will provide inputs for training material for new equipment and work practices as needed. You will provide unquestionable integrity with exceptional communication skills and ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff.


Organization


Responsible for drafting personnel requisitions, interviewing candidates and collaborating on hiring decisions, fostering diversity and innovation, and ensuring technical knowledge is exchanged within and beyond the group. Assist the Group Supervisor in the performance coaching and salary review processes. Ensure that the group is at correct staffing levels and staff are aligned appropriately in the structure. Work collaboratively across the Department and Lab to foster partnering to maximize the impact to the organization. Assist in a creating a climate conducive to creativity, collaboration, diversity of ideas and respect for others. Assist in communicating and implementing vision and strategy for the Group.


Staff Development


Ensure that Section Supervisors are supporting staff development and coaching staff as necessary, including receiving partner feedback throughout the year. Inspire and empower the staff to create a culture that embraces technical excellence, problem solving, diversity of thought, inclusion, and continual improvement. Provide resources needed to train and develop the staff to meet current and emerging needs. Communicate often with staff regarding organizational vision and purpose and the development of goals toward desired outcomes, and provide continual feedback and coaching support. Identify and develop key talent for future leadership roles.


Operational


Work with the Group Supervisor to the sections to ensure that the Group has the necessary resources, facilities and analytical tools needed to execute its mission and to train and develop the staff to meet current and emerging needs. Be responsible of managing Group budget and inventory.


Qualifications


You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...


  • Can demonstrate the ability to think strategically and lead change while working in a practical manner to ensure that change is delivered in a sustainable way.
  • Have an understanding of housekeeping processes and equipment including operation along with inventory management experience.
  • Are proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and general PC knowledge.
  • Possess proven strength in training, prioritization and staff development.
  • Possess a bachelor 's degree in a business related field or equivalent years of professional level business experience.
  • Are able to identify and develop key talent for future leadership roles.
  • Are able to assist in communicating and implementing the strategy and vision for the group.
  • Possess unquestionable integrity with exceptional communication skills and ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff.
  • Are self-motivated, a strong influencer and negotiator with demonstrated ability to assess situations, collaborate across the organization, make timely decisions and communicate these decisions clearly and concisely.
  • Can demonstrate success in leading and managing staff including developing work assignments and schedules.
  • Have a minimum 7 years ' supervising a housekeeping team or related trade.

  • Possess knowledge of environmentally-sensitive (green) cleaning programs
  • Demonstrate success in leading and managing at the group/section level in current roll or previous employment
  • Have experience with the regulatory environment in Howard County and the State of Maryland.
  • Have participatory membership in a professional association such as ISSA, IFMA, IEHA or other industry affiliation
