Job Description

Summary

Carmel Valley Ranch is situated on nearly 500 acres of lush land. Carmel Valley Ranch boasts an 18-hole, Pete Dye-designed championship golf course. Carmel Valley Ranch is rich with agriculture and horticulture. Along with the golf course, the resort is complemented with an organic farm, an apiary, Olive Orchard, over 7,500 lavender plants, wine grapes, hiking trails and numerous outdoor event facilities. California natives and drought resistant plants surround the River Ranch athletic and tennis facility, golf club house, spa, lodge and the hotel rooms. This position the assistant golf course superintendent reports directly to the Director of Golf Course Maintenance and Grounds. Under the Director of Golf Course Maintenance and Grounds, the Assistant Golf Course and Grounds Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course and property grounds. The Assistant Golf Course and Grounds Superintendent may serve in the superintendent's capacity during his/her absence.

Qualifications

  • Require current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator or to obtain within six months of employment.
  • Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of golf course and property landscape; schedules work; and supervises the employees and the use of the equipment.
  • May modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
  • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports; and maintain effective employee and public relations.
  • The person must have a positive attitude, positive interaction with employees and guests, strong work ethic, and the ability to work well with others. Conversational Spanish skills are a plus.
  • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; and supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Assists in personnel management and evaluation and employee safety.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course & resort grounds turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
