Job Summary


The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. Under the Superintendent's supervision, the Assistant Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. The Assistant Superintendent may serve in the Superintendent's capacity during their absence.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and participate in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems
  • Instruct equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment
  • Assist in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways
  • Supervise pesticide applications and/or operate and calibrate pesticide application equipment
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University
  • Assist with personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, and discipline
  • Supervise planting, fertilizing and maintenance of turf
  • Hire, orient, and train all golf course maintenance department employees
  • Schedule work and supervise employees and use of equipment
  • Perform tasks necessary to keep maintenance facility and equipment clean, organized, and safe
  • Supervise the mowing, watering and maintenance of tees, greens, fairways and related areas

Required Qualifications


Educational Requirements

  • Associate's Degree

Other Required Qualifications

  • Obtain and maintain commercial pesticide applicator's license, if not licensed

Required Experience

  • Two (2) or more years of turf maintenance experience

Preferred Qualifications


Preferred Education

  • Effective problem solving, decision making, and conflict resolution skills
  • A thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf
  • Formal training or education in Turf Management

Preferred Experience

  • Experience managing warm season turf grasses

Proposed Salary


$49,400 - $52,000

This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.

  • Ability to acquire pesticide applicator's license within 90 days
  • Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific position
  • Ability to maintain effective employee and public relations
  • Ability to plan, assign, and direct the work of others
  • Navigate web access and email with or without reasonable acommodation
  • Consistently exhibit engaging customer service
  • Ability to maintain tees, fairways, greens, and appurtenances to an acceptable standard of golf course play

KNOWLEDGE

  • Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
  • Thorough knowledge of construction and maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens
  • Knowledgeable about the game of golf
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components involving pump station maintenance

  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational, conflict resolution and human relations skills
  • Conflict resolution skills
