Education and Experience:
A College degree in a related field
A minimum of four (4) years of supervisory/ management experience working in a school, camp, park, fitness or recreation facility, community center, or other organized group setting
A valid US driver's license required

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Director is responsible for oversight of public community spaces and active wellness classes managed by the Battery Park City Authority. Approximately one-third of the position will focus on managing the Community Center at Stuyvesant High School, which is open weekday evenings and on weekend afternoons. One-third of the position will involve leading team managers responsible for oversight of the Battery Park City Ball Fields, and Community Spaces at 6 River Terrace, 200 Rector Place, and the Rockefeller Park House. The final area of focus with be managing a portfolio of active wellness programs for all ages conducted throughout Battery Park City.
The world-renowned parks, community spaces, and free programming for visitors of all ages are a national and international model of excellence in urban planning. The incumbent performs a variety of administrative, communications, and supervisory roles in the management of the community centers and in support of the active wellness programs. The Assistant Director ensures that programs and events and community spaces are well-managed, well-planned, executed responsibly, sustainably, safely, and graciously to all visitors.
Essential Duties:

Community Center at Stuyvesant High School:
Responsible for long and short range program planning, daily scheduling, hands-on daily troubleshooting, and coordinating Community Center operations with other BPCA departments and Stuyvesant High School staff
Responsible for managing community center membership services, hiring and managing staff, and creating policies and procedures that ensure the public facility operates safely and efficiently
Work closely with the Vice President of Parks Programming and Community Operations and manage the daily operation of the Community Center at Stuyvesant High School
Serve as a leader, setting an example of responsibility, skill, communication, enthusiasm, flexibility, and safety
Develop and/or review daily and monthly staff schedules
Responsible for managing the front desk area of the community center
Work closely with management staff to coordinate pool usage and Life Guard staffing
Ensure that revenue collection and daily collection of receipts from membership sales are accurately tracked and deposited to the BPCA Finance department
Active Wellness Programming:
Take ownership of planning and executing a portfolio of programs with a focus on active recreation, creative play, movement, and athletics for all ages and ability levels
Develop programs and coordinate outreach with the active Battery Park City senior community to ensure that aging adults stay connected to each other and the community
Engage children, teens, and adults in recreation program activities and actively contribute to the planning, production, and success of programs or special events
Perform administrative and support tasks including managing inventory and procurement of recreational equipment and supplies through the electronic purchasing system
Community Spaces:
Oversee the management of The Rockefeller Park House, 6 River Terrace and the 200 Rector Place community spaces
Procurement, Inventory, and Maintenance:
Work with the Vice President to develop annual budgets for the Community Operations division; work within the approved budgets, review budget reports, and consult with the Finance Department to ensure that all department spending is appropriate and that inventory of supplies and equipment is purchased in a timely manner and is well-managed
Manage the organization and distribution of keys, uniforms, and lockers for the division
Ensure that staff has access to facilities and equipment while maintaining security
Approve requisitions in the Workplace purchasing system
Communication:
Assist the Vice President in reporting on project schedules, attendance levels, revenue, and expenses
Work with the BPCA promotions team to develop targeted lists and outreach to promote specific events and coordinate electronic dissemination and mailing of program information and announcements
Be a well-informed, outgoing representative of BPCA to the public and a motivating influence for Community Operations staff
Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Parks Programming and Community Operations
