Job Description
  • Meets with vendors, brokers, and manufacturer representatives to discuss and review new products and/or services.
  • Serves on the district Safety Committee.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field.
  • Research, prepare and submit available vendor rebates and incentives.
  • Works to establish a pool of qualified potential bidders and or contractors to maintain competitive bidding.
  • Prepares RFPs for procurement of grocery, supplies, and equipment.
  • Responsible for product and costing decisions for procurement.
  • Plans student menus using district menu planning software. Considers student preferences, USDA commodities, USDA guidelines, and school nutrition trends.
  • Procures all food service-related small wares and large food service equipment for Child Nutrition Services.
  • Resolves cafeteria and vendor concerns regarding delivery schedules, product complaints, product recalls, credits, invoices, product substitutions, pricing discrepancies and emergency needs.
  • Serves on the district Wellness Committee.
  • Provides oversight for procurement activities of CNS and ensures that all activities meet local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Complies with all USDA regulations and guidelines related to the National School Lunch Program.
  • Represents the school nutrition department at the regional procurement cooperative meetings.
  • Conducts USDA On-Site Monitoring at all sites.
  • Prepares financial and statistical data necessary to prepare and administer bids and the USDA Commodity Program.
  • Conducts site visits to ensure program compliance related to menu offerings, portion sizes, Offer vs. Serve, recipes and HACCP.
  • Experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience with working in a K-12 school food service environment, preferred.
  • Maintain up-to-date HACCP plan.
  • Attends seminars, conferences, workshops, classes, lectures, etc., as appropriate, to enhance and maintain knowledge of trends and developments in the field of food services administration, and procurement, safety, and equipment, and otherwise maintains contact with food services professionals to facilitate exchange of information.
  • Reports sanitation inspections to PDE as required by USDA. Posts reports online as per local requirements.
  • Maintains effective communication between CNS, the community, schools, and allied groups.
  • Provides training to school nutrition staff in all aspects of procurement, vendor compliance, safety, sanitation, and maintenance reports.
  • Conducts bid audits, monitors product pricing and makes product changes as warranted due to price increases
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Reviews research market of food service equipment to meet needs of district.
  • Monitors sanitation inspections and follow-up of facility and safety issues.
