The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Assistant Director of Animal Care to support the Animal Care Division.

General Description
Assists in highly responsible management and administrative work in planning, organizing and directing the activities of the County's Animal Care Division.
Works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in animal sciences, business, public administration or a closely related field.

(Two years of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)

Requires four (4) years in animal care related professions, such as the fields of shelter management, animal services program development and management, volunteer coordination and/or adoption, rescue and spay/neuter programs; including at least two (2) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience.

CAWA/ University of Pacific Best Friends Leadership Certification
Bachelor's Degree in animal sciences, veterinary science, business administration, Social Work, or a closely related field
Master's Degree in animal sciences, veterinary science, business administration, Social work, or closely related field
FACA Florida Animal Control Association, Animal Control Officer Certification
Fear Free Shelter Certification
Certified Animal Welfare Administrator
Certificate in conflict management, dispute resolution, or facilitator certification from an accredited college or similar (e.g. Certified Master Facilitator)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Develops and manages programs related to Animal Care services and public outreach.
Conducts research of and status up to date on best practices for the delivery of animal care and services.
Coordinates program activities with internal and external entities, organizations, community groups, and citizens.
Monitors financial and budgetary information provides financial reports to management and ensures utilization is in compliance with financial policies and procedures.
Develops and implements policies and procedures.
Enforces the County's animal ordinances.
Promotes responsible pet ownership through humane education to reduce the number of complaints and problems related to animals; communicates with the public regarding complaints and problems relating to animals.
Prepares and monitors division budget and prepares special reports as required; monitors revenues collected; handles dissemination of information to the animal care community on all ordinances and related issues.
Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining strategic, fiscal, and capital improvement plans for the Animal Care Division; attends conferences and public and professional meetings.

Performs related work as assigned.

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to disease/pathogens, dog and cat allergens, potentially aggressive animals or dangerous animals, extreme noise levels, and periods of mental stress.
