Assist Head Coach with all facets of Men's Basketball program, primarily by: instructing student-athletes on Men's Basketball skills and techniques, educating on Men's Basketball rules and NCAA requirements, assessing comprehension of skills, techniques and rules and providing additional instruction as appropriate, and preparing team for competition and practice.
Assistant coach must perform duties in compliance with all College, Patriot League, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Primary Responsibilities (60%):
Provide individual and team instruction to student-athletes on:
- Skill attainment
- Team concepts
- Rules & fundamentals
- Techniques and methods required to demonstrate satisfactory performance in a safe manner
Provide individualized coaching/tutoring/mentoring to student-athletes, including preparatory work that includes:
- Attending workshops and training sessions for the purpose of researching methods to provide student-athletes with training and instruction on: rules, fundamentals, team concepts, physical health, safety, skill attainment, conference rules and regulations
- Developing instruction for individual student-athletes and specific team needs
- Reviewing video of opponent performance and subsequently designing individualized and team instruction for Holy Cross student-athletes
- Determining pre-competition activities that will be conducted during days of competition
- Assessing student-athlete skill attainment demonstrated during practice, competition, and in films of both practice and competition
- Determining specific daily practice activities that will be conducted by student-athletes
Secondary responsibilities (40%)
Recruiting (30%):
- Identifying talented, academically qualified prospective student-athletes
Administrative duties as assigned, including, but not limited to (10%):
- Collaborating with coach to develop annual goals for the program
- Effectively communicating with coaches, prospects and parents
- Assisting with fundraising, marketing and promotional activities
- Tracking academic progress and providing counseling as appropriate
- Administering sport camps as directed by head coach and/or Athletics Administration
- Maintaining records
Job Requirements:
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
- Prior experience instructing and coaching, preferably at the Division I level
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills required
- Bachelor's degree required
- Computer and video editing skills strongly encouraged

- Supports departmental efforts through collaborative measures and sharing knowledge with others
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple task
- Flexibility and reliability; position requires travel work on nights and weekends.
- Ability to demonstrate skills and techniques during practice sessions, in order for student-athletes to learn through observation
- Strong teamwork and team facilitation
- Understands risk management and works in conjunction with Sports Medicine and Strength and Conditioning personnel to uphold health and safety standards in the conduct of all activities
