Job Summary

Towson University, a Division I member of the Colonial Athletic Association, is seeking an Assistant Coach position for Women’s Basketball. Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach for Women’s Basketball teaches and provides instruction in the sport of women's basketball and assists in the planning, promotion, and administration of a quality Division I women's basketball program. This position is responsible for player development, on court coaching, scouting, and recruiting.


Responsibilities and Duties

Responsibilities for the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach position include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Assisting with academic support, fundraising activities, and community service, including communication and outreach to alumni
  • Providing instruction to student-athlete hosts on department/NCAA policies and procedures for visits
  • Knowledge of and adhering to NCAA rules
  • Creating scouting reports, as assigned by the Head Coach, and providing institution to team-related strategy derived from scouting reports
  • Tracking all admissions through the application process for prospective student-athletes
  • Independent planning and implementation of a season long plan for a set group of student-athletes
  • Completing recruiting logs and other end-of-year summaries and correspondence within ARMS and in coordination with the compliance office
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Head Coach
  • Recruiting and evaluating prospective student-athletes through the use of technology; conducting contacts and evaluations; and organizing official visits, including assigning hosts, creating travel itineraries, and managing all budgetary elements of visits while adhering to all NCAA regulations
  • Participating in all aspects of practice instruction and game coaching

The work hours for this position include nights and weekends, as required by the basketball schedule. Travel is required.


Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to train and recruit at the Division I collegiate level
  • Ability to accept and carry out assigned program and responsibilities
  • Ability to pass the NCAA recruiting test and have a thorough understanding of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well with other coaches, students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community
  • A demonstrated commitment to high academic standards for student-athletes and their ability to succeed both academically and athletically, as well as the understanding that this is essential to building a positive team culture
  • Bachelor's degree and successful basketball coaching or Department of Basketball Operations experience at the college, high school, professional, club/clinic level or graduate assistant level
  • A commitment to personal and professional development of student-athletes
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the structure and framework of an athletics department and university
