Position Description

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking two (2) Assistant Civil Engineer's to join the Construction Engineering section of SPU's Construction Management Division. The Construction Management Division of Seattle Public Utilities provides Contract Administration and Quality Assurance inspection services for Capital Improvement Projects, as well as inspection management of SPU's assets placed by other agencies and private developers. These positions will work closely with a diverse work group on municipal, commercial, and residential projects.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the plans, specifications, special provisions, and permits related to project(s) to which he or she is assigned.
  • Coordinate efforts with the Supervisor, Resident Engineer (RE), permit-related inspectors, technical testing services and specialty consultants Assist REs to ensure contractor compliance with the Project Plans and Specifications and all permit conditions.
  • Verify that permitted equipment and supplies have been installed and tested, and that all contract documents and permits have been met..
  • Assist REs in providing necessary documentation for Contractor Payments.
  • Document Contractor’s work with a Daily Inspection Report (DIR) and appropriate photos.
  • Provide Quality Assurance for the Contractor’s work.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology; or other combinations of education and/or experience which provides preparation to do professional civil engineering work.

License, Certification & Other Requirements:
  • Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Additional Information

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience interpreting construction drawings, as-built sketches and other source document materials related to utility infrastructure.
  • Experience working and/or learning remotely.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Ability to work well in a multicultural workforce serving a diversified consumer base.
  • Proficient in prevalent office software programs.
  • Experience working efficiently in a fast-paced, production driven environment.
  • Experience in Construction Management is preferred.
Special Conditions
  • Must be able to lift over 50 pounds. Must be able to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work nights, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Must be willing to undertake field assignments that may entail exposure to all types of weather, traffic, hazardous/toxic substances and work in or near construction sites.
The full salary range for this position is $37.98 - $41.06 per hour.

Workplace Environment/Telework Expectations: This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
