Job Description
The Talent Acquisition department hires qualified candidates to fill positions which contribute to the overall strategic success of Howard University. Hiring staff “for fit” makes significant contributions to Howard University’s overall mission.
BASIC FUNCTION
The purpose of this position is to provide care for the Howard University student-athlete in the following areas: prevention of athletic injuries and illnesses, evaluation of athletic injuries, treatment of athletic injuries, providing education and counseling to student-athletes about their injury/illness.

NATURE AND SCOPE
  • Maintains appropriate communication with the Director of Sports Medicine, student-athletes, coaches, and physicians.
  • Will coordinate and maintain records for all athletic physical examinations for all student-athletes.
  • Maintains an athletic calendar of events for team practice, games, and other schedule activities.
  • Maintains appropriate communication and attends meetings within the Department of Athletics.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Establishes commitments to compliance of rules and keeps all student athletes informed about National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) conference and University eligibility requirements, new legislation, academic standards, and University code of conduct.
  • Uphold Howard University Sports Medicine Policy & Procedures for athletes.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Sports Medicine or Senior Assistant Athletic Trainer.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for transportation of team in vans and the ability to travel for team practices and competition.
  • Works more than the traditional 40 hours per week, which may include many weekends (including Sundays), nights and holidays.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the athletic training room.
  • Completes required CEU’s for BOCATC
  • Remain in good standing with the BOCATC
  • Maintains an athletic calendar of events for team practice, games, and other schedule activities.
  • Will coordinate and maintain records for all athletic physical examinations for all student-athletes.
CORE COMPETENCIES
  • Skill in oral and written English to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
  • Skill in organization as well as technical and disciplinary skills to help assist the coordinator.
  • Knowledge of University, NCAA, and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) rules and regulations.
  • Ability to show sensitivity and understand the unique mission of a historically black educational institution.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with faculty, staff, students and customers.
  • Have a foundation of Sports Medicine techniques to ensure the Health and Well Being of our student-athletes.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate student athletes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • NATABOC certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in exercise physiology/health education, sports medicine or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
  • 1–3 years of experience.
  • Current CPR/AED certification.
