Position Summary:
Campbell University School of Law seeks outstanding applicants for up to two, entry-level or lateral, full-time, tenured or tenure-track, faculty positions. We welcome candidates in all subject areas, with a particular interest in filling curricular needs in property, criminal law, evidence, and trial advocacy. The positions are nine-month academic appointments that will begin in August 2024, at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor.
All applicants should have excellent academic credentials and outstanding teaching reviews, and the ability to work effectively and collegially with faculty, students, and colleagues. Education/Experience:
- At least two years of practice experience, either through private practice, government, or public service, is required
- Commitment to excellence in teaching and demonstrable, or potential for, outstanding scholarship
- Strong academic credentials with a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school or equivalent academic degree
- Practice experience in the area(s) relevant to target courses is desirable, but not required
- Prior law school teaching experience is desirable, but not required
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cooperate with other designated faculty to implement a coordinated curriculum, inclusive of learning objectives
- Other job-related duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice
- Administer tests, assignments and other exercised that permit measure of knowledge, abilities and/or performance relative to the course learning objectives
- Maintain effective and timely communications with students and staff at all times
- Complete student record keeping and submit grades in a timely and accurate manner
- Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including but not limited to Title IX, and Information Security, including but not limited to FERPA and other state and federal mandates
- Develop and manage course materials from learning objectives and recommendations from Associate Dean and/or Curriculum Committee
- Provide students with individual feedback on assessments
- Participate in departmental, faculty and staff meetings as requested
- Administer exams according to Law School guidelines
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- This position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity and the ability to work within the Christian mission of Campbell University.
- Familiarity using/administering social media platforms
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and common methods of digital communication such as web conferencing, web/text chat
- Work independently and function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people
- Exercise independent judgment in complex, new, and/or stressful situations
- Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet set deadlines
- Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a changing environment
- Demonstrated skill in teaching and mentoring students
- Knowledge regarding usage of Blackboard and web- based applications
- Comprehensive computer skills, with the ability to learn and utilize new and emerging technology
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, students, university officials and outside constituencies
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
