Minimum qualifications:

  • Or additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.
  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Music, Dance/Movement Therapy, Art or other related mental health therapy from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment.
  • OR additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for year basis.
  • At least two (2) years of experience providing therapeutic treatment, habilitation, rehabilitation and/or instruction of clients in an ongoing therapeutic program applicable occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
  • Current certification from a nationally accredited organization in any of the following creative arts therapies: Music, Art, Dance/Movement, Recreation (Must attach certification to the application for verification credit).

Job duties:

  • Implements a needs specific creative arts therapy service delivery program by conducting groups, 1:1s, including counseling, evaluation, education and recreation participation for population, which may include a locked security facility.
  • Participates as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team in developing the patient Treatment Plan formulation and Reviews to help formulate long-and short-range goals.
  • Apply therapeutic practices and techniques to improve or maintain client cognition, emotional development, educational development, communication, socialization and physical functioning level.
  • Modifications/accommodations are made in order to provide services, which enable patients at varying levels of support needs to fully participate.
  • Designs the recreational or other creative arts therapy services plan for the assigned population to include modalities of leisure education, physical, cognitive, social, psychological, and daily living skills designed to foster independent and leisure choices and functioning in patient participation.
  • Performs any of the creative arts (music, recreation, dance/movement, art therapy) assessments by gathering information, interviewing patient, and making treatment recommendations in the functional modality areas of physical, social, leisure, cognitive, psychological, and daily living needs and skills.
