Summary of Job Duties:
The Archivist, assigned to the UA Little Rock Center for Arkansas History and Culture, is responsible for processing archival collections, assisting patrons, and working collaboratively on archival projects. The person holding this position will participate in ArchivesSpace and other working group discussions. Assistance with grant writing and implementation is an expectation, along with some project management. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications:
Required Education and/or Experience
  • The ability to lift a 40-pound box.
  • A Master's degree in a field related to archives work;
  • At least two (2) years of relevant experience;
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor, review, identifies, and report processing policies and procedures for clarity and adoption in collaboration with other archivists;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work with a variety of archive formats, including paper, photographs, multimedia, and born-digital;
  • Identify manuscript-processing priorities in collaboration with other archivists and CAHC administration;
  • Answer research requests via email, phone calls, and regular mail;
  • Provide patron assistance through weekly reference shifts in the research room, with an occasional Saturday shift an expectation;
  • Participates in departmental strategic and topical planning;
  • Preserve records, documents, and objects according to national standards;
  • Supervise interns, student workers, and graduate assistants on special projects in coordination with the Assistant Director;
  • Arrange and make available archival collections using professional standards;
  • Assist in identifying research projects based on archival collections for faculty, staff, and students;
  • Collaborate to promote CAHC initiatives and services through tours, presentations, virtual exhibits, social media, and other appropriate means;
  • Represent the CAHC on a variety of collaborative projects and programs inside and outside the department;
  • Participate in professional development opportunities such as conference attendance, presentations, and workshops;
  • Identify and assist in coordinating grant opportunities related to CAHC collections;
  • Coordinate reference desk schedules and archival supply ordering;
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of digital preservation standards;
  • Knowledge and use of basic manuscript processing techniques, such as “More Product, Less Process” guidelines for archival processing, and DACS and EAD for digital encoding of manuscript and archival finding aids;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience utilizing best practices concerning the arrangement and descriptions of archival collections;
  • Demonstrated project management and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrate a record of designing projects and bringing them to a conclusion in a timely fashion.
  • Knowledge of best practices concerning the conservation and preservation of archival collections;
  • Knowledge of EAD and XML, including writing and maintaining XSL style sheets;
  • Superior oral and written communication skills;
  • Commitment and ability to work effectively with diverse populations;
  • Knowledge of the history of the United States and of the State of Arkansas;
