LOCATION: 210 Synergy Center Blvd, Houma, LA 70360
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM
SUPERVISOR: Loan Operations Director
DEPARTMENT: Credit Department
POSITION SUMMARY: The Credit Department Appraisal Review Specialist provides centralized appraisal functions for the Credit Department and Lending Staff. The Appraisal Review Specialist is responsible for managing the selection, bidding process, engagement, review, and approval of real estate and equipment appraisals.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Require, if the Appraisal Review Specialist deems relevant, additional information from the appraiser to support the appraiser’s findings
  • Help maintain list of approved appraisers by providing input on the quality of appraisals received. Research, review, and recommend new appraisers to add to approved list
  • Prepare real estate evaluations on commercial and residential properties
  • Maintains a good understanding of all bank products and services to effectively cross sell
  • Responsible for ordering and quoting appraisals as required by the loan approval documents
  • Perform an independent review of appraisals, based on the Appraisal Review Specialist’s independent judgment and discretion, to determine the reasonableness and accuracy of the appraisal and to ensure technical compliance, regulations, and appraisal standards. The Appraisal Review Specialist’s review shall include, but shall not limited to, the reasonableness of the comparable values used by the appraiser, the appraiser’s calculations and methodologies, and the capitalization rate if used by the appraiser
  • Maintain appropriate procedures, records, tracking documentation, and reports for control and reconciliation purposes.
  • Performs maintenance of property descriptions on core operating systems
  • Receive and track appraisal invoices
  • Re-indexes appraisals on file with new loan numbers
  • Performs daily tasks associated with appraisals within department guidelines and directed by supervisor
  • Strong integrity in all areas, adhering to policies, regulations, and utmost ethical and legal standards
  • Images and indexes appraisals, in-house evaluations, confirmations, and re-validations
  • Receive, track, and process appraisal bids and engagements for loan requests, including renewals
  • Maintain an accurate pipeline of future appraisals to ensure timely review to meeting closing date expectations
  • Provides the Synergy Bank standard of excellence in customer service
  • Prepare re validations of existing appraisals when the validation criteria are met
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks
  • Must have reliable transportation to commute to and from work
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
  • Thorough understanding of cost, sales, and income approaches utilized in appraisal reports
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to present a business professional appearance
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with others in a work environment
  • Capability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of lenders, managers, directors and/or regulatory officials
  • Ability to continue education of appraisal regulation and compliance
  • Uphold confidentiality and privacy of findings in all situations
  • Strong analytical, technical, and statistical skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • High School Education.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
  • Knowledge of CSI Systems preferred not required.
  • Experience in scanning and indexing documents.
  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to interact with the public utilizing various methods of communication.
  • Must be able to lift and carry approximately 20-30 pounds multiple times throughout the day.
  • Employee may be required to squat multiple times per day and remain in that position for short periods of time while accessing filing cabinets at ground level. This could occur as few or as many times as necessary to accomplish the required task.
  • Must be able to work at a computer station in front of a monitor for up to 4 hours at a time.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to listen to, grasp, and respond positively to supervision and instructions by Management.
  • Must have the attention span to stay alert and attentive during a normal 8-hour workday.
  • The Credit Department Appraisal Review Specialist must be able to make sound, quick decisions based on the facts of a situation, and remain calm and in control in a possible ever-changing environment or an emergency.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and procedures exactly as trained or as directed by his or her supervisor.
  • Physical and cognitive ability to perform the essential duties and functions of his/her job.
  • Ability to safeguard and maintain confidential information as directed by Federal law and Company policy.
