Job Summary:
Disney's Animal Kingdom Primate/Carnivore Team is looking to fill a Seasonal Animal Keeper position with their team. The successful applicant will work with a large team of keepers to perform daily care of the collection following established guidelines.
The collections are managed within the operation of the Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Species of focus may include, but is not limited to, primates, carnivores, meerkats and flying foxes.
This is a Seasonal position, reporting to the Zoological Managers of the assigned area and team.
Responsibilities/You Will:
- Keepers are responsible for the day-to-day animal care and welfare. This includes husbandry, enrichment, and operant conditioning as it relates to the daily management and research of assigned species.
- Maintain daily records using ZIMS, collecting and logging information, and ensuring this information is communicated to management and the central animal record keeping system.
- Keepers must work well in a large team environment.
- The work includes physical labor in ambient outdoor temperatures and weather conditions in Central Florida, which may include extreme heat and humidity.
- Animal keepers keep a flexible schedule, working a variety of shifts as vital to support the area operation.
- Ensure the daily routines of cleaning, animal observation, diet preparation and reporting medical needs or abnormal conditions to Zoological Managers.
- Provide animal information and conservation messages through guest and cast interaction.
- Partner with maintenance, operation managers, horticulture, veterinary staff, educators and scientists.
Basic Qualifications/You Will Have:
- Experience in applying operant conditioning techniques in the field
- OR-
- Four years paid experience as a keeper in a AZA accredited institution, or in an institution with equivalent standards and at least 2 years of verifiable college course work (60 semester hours)
- OR-
- Observation, evaluation and data collecting skills
- Strong Interpersonal and partnering skills
- Five years paid experience a keeper in a AZA accredited institution, or in an institution with equivalent standards
- OR-
- Three years paid experience as a keeper in an AZA accredited institution, or in an institution with equivalent standards and at least 3 years of verifiable college course work (90 semester hours)
- Previous Disney’s Animal Kingdom experience as an Animal Keeper
- OR-
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with a Primates and carnivores, meerkats and flying foxes at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Required Education:
- High School Degree or equivalent
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Zoology or related field of study
