Position: Animal Intake Team Member

Report to: Team Leader and Shelter Manager

Classification: Part time Hourly

Pay Rate: $14.00

Summary: The Animal Intake Team Member is responsible for the operation of the Intake Department

DUTIES:

• Performs other duties as assigned by Shelter Manager.
• Assures the re-vaccination of all animals admitted to the facility as needed, and administer medications, either orally, nasally, or by injection, according to prescribed guidelines.
• Euthanizes animals as required.
• Assists other staff in holding animals being administered medication or euthanized, and aids in controlling and moving large or unruly animals.
• Maintains a good working relationship with volunteers at the Shelter.
• Assures that the Intake Desk is manned during all hours open to the public.
• Records all pertinent data into PetPoint data base.
• Receives payments/donations for services rendered, according to a defined schedule, and balances the cash register to the computer record of transactions daily.
• Refers questions about non-routine circumstances to the Shelter Manager.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Demonstrate ability to enter data into a PC data base and retrieve periodic reports from same.
• Demonstrate a basic knowledge of animal health and behavior issues.
• Veterinary Assistant Certificate preferred but not required
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Ability to work well with staff, volunteers and customers, especially those surrendering pets for euthanizing.
• Demonstrate a basic understanding of infection control procedures and safe handling of dog and cats.

PHYSICAL:

The position involves standing and walking for extensive periods of time, along with bending, stooping, reaching, holding, and lifting (animals weighing up to 50 lbs.). The incumbent will be exposed to various cleaning chemicals and animal medications, and is expected to be familiar with and follow OSHA guidelines in their handling and administration. The incumbent is exposed to continual contact with cats, dogs, and other animals.
