Hiring Range $21.82 - $24.04


Starting Salary May Be Adjusted Depending On Experience.


  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include nights, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain/maintain a City Driver's Permit
  • High School Diploma or GED


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


Experience in animal control and/or wildlife trapping


  • Ensures all personnel assisting with the removal of an animal are properly instructed on the handling and care of the animal
  • Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class positions
  • Keeps immediate supervisor and other designated officials fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new and improved ways of addressing such problems
  • Other related duties as directed
  • Provides assistance to other agencies and related organizations as needed,
  • Ability to operate and maintain tranquilizer guns
  • Coordinates with State and Federal Wildlife agencies regarding nuisance wildlife complaints
  • Works with Police Officers, Investigators, and/or other municipalities to investigate complaints of dog bites and other animal complaints, issuing citations or written warnings to violators as required
  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio – visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas
  • Captures and treat injured animals prior to transportation to a holding facility
  • Must be able to conduct surveys of wildlife issues and implement a management plan to control the issue
  • Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities
  • Coordinate with the county health department regarding possible rabies cases
  • Maintains complete and accurate logs and reports as required by The Hoover Police Department, Hoover Municipal Court and The State of Alabama regarding animal control issues
  • Responds to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner
  • Conducts euthanasia of animals (wild and domesticated) that are deemed to have rabies or are too sick or injured to be rehabilitated
  • Attends court sessions to give testimony on cases set for trial
  • Tranquilizes injured or large animals that pose the threat to human life as needed
  • Coordinate with wildlife rehabilitators in the evaluation, transportation and treatment of injured wildlife
  • Be familiar with types of wildlife in order to educate the general public regarding wildlife issues
  • Establishes and maintains positive community relations through programs, demonstrations, and public assistance, including conducting special programs for schools and other civic organizations
  • Patrols City streets and neighborhoods to ensure compliance with City of Hoover Animal Control Ordinances
  • Coordinate with veterinarians regarding the proper dosage and administration of tranquilizers
  • Set traps and safely remove various types of wildlife to include but not limited to coyotes, foxes, snakes, beavers, bobcats, raccoons, etc.
