- Observe and report deviations in the environment which could affect animal health or research projects i.e. (temperature or humidity).
- Comply with federal, state, local and institutional regulations concerning laboratory animal
- Clean, feed, and water animals as assigned.
- Cage wash duties such as dumping, washing and sterilizing cages.
- Observe animals for abnormalities and sickness.
- Accurate record keeping of all animal and facility related documentation.
Requirements
This position requires that the incumbent be able to lift up to 50lbs and push up to 300lbs. In addition, the incumbent may be required to work weekends and holidays.
- Ability to follow verbal and written communications.
- ALAT certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science is preferred.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with research staff, animal care staff, veterinarian, and other employees of Boston College.
- Understanding of animal health and husbandry, behavior, spread and control of disease, sanitation processes, and environmental changes affecting laboratory animals; common strains of rodents and their nomenclature.
- 1 to 3 years experience in the care of laboratory animals.
- High School Diploma
- Skill in making careful visual observations.
- Skill in verbal and written communications.
