Anesthesia Tech - Main Operating Room (Full Time) Evenings

Reporting to the Clinical Unit Leader, with accountability to the Surgical Team, performs activities related to hemodynamic monitoring and anesthesia assistance for patients in the operating room. Demonstrates current knowledge of procedures required to deliver quality patient care in monitoring.
1. Prepares the operating room suite for hemodynamic monitoring and the administration of anesthesia during surgical procedures; sets up disposable transducer and irrigation systems for invasive monitoring access.
2. Assists anesthesiologist throughout perioperative case with hemodynamic monitoring as assigned.
3. Assists in lab analysis upon completion of competency testing; performs required quality control activities to ensure the accuracy of the monitoring machines.
4. Assists in preparing patients in the pre-surgical preparation area per anesthesiologist's request.
5. Assists anesthesiologist with supply, equipment, and positioning needs throughout the perioperative period under the direct supervision of a physician; obtains supply trays and drugs as requested by the physician. May be authorized to access secured medication storage locations to perform job related functions.
6. Cleans and stocks anesthesia/hemodynamic monitoring related equipment and supplies as assigned.
7. Maintains anesthesia equipment in Surgical Services according to required schedule; performs periodic replacement of defective modules in units when problems arise; notifies Bio-Med department when equipment problems occur.
8. Assists in all aspects of room preparation and turnover with special emphasis on anesthesia needs; exchanges drug tray; under the direction of licensed medical staff, replaces supplies as needed; activates anesthesia machines.
9. Adheres to all departmental and hospital safety standards in order to maintain a safe patient care and working environment. Attends all mandatory inservice education programs.
10. Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures.

1. The level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of four years of high school.

2. Patient Care Technician with one year PCT experience, or, EMT with one year EMT experience, or, High School graduate with one year Anesthesia Tech experience, or A.A. (or) A.S. degree (or greater) with no clinical experience.

3. Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology and computer skills.

4. Previous experience in a hospital environment preferred.
5. The interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, staff, and physicians.
6. The ability to assist in the operation of medical equipment associated with monitoring and anesthesia.
7. The ability to work in stressful situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1.Will occasionally transfer patients into or out of chair, transfer patients from bed to cart or from table to cart push or pull objects greater than 39lbs., climb stairs/ramps, work with arms extended at the shoulder height, work with hands at waist level, frequently work with body bent over at waist, reach or strech from waist.
2.Lifting- will occasionally require lifting (such as patients and equipment) weighing 1-30lbs or more. Co-workers are occasionally available to assist with lifting
3.Pushing/Pulling- will occasionally push/pull objects (such as carts) weighing 25lbs. For distances up to 300 feet, occasionally push/pull objects (such as ventilators) weighing 150lbs for distances up to 80 feet. Equipment/ machines are not available to assist with pushing/pulling. Co-workers are occasionally available to assist with pushing/pulling.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. There is continuous possibility of exposure to infectious disease, blood and body fluids, and high-pressure medical gases.
