Analytical Chemist


YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


The primary responsibilities of this role, Analytical Chemist, are to:

  • Maintains a safe clean work environment and participate in site and section safety programs;
  • Understands and operates LIMS, and other instrument specific computer systems. demonstrates advanced skills in identifying and resolving problems associated with the laboratory data acquisition system;
  • Supports the assessment of capital needs associated with new technologies and effectively builds a business case for their implementation.
  • Supports, and in limited cases leads, the development of methods to characterize various formulations, raw materials, active ingredients, intermediates, contaminants, and impurities using gas chromatography, ion chromatography, liquid chromatography, FTIR, UV/VIS spectroscopy, titration, ICP, XRF, and various types of physical testing equipment with no supervision;
  • Supports, and in limited cases leads, efforts to validate new and existing QC methods;
  • Liaisons with other chemists and scientists to resolve issues;
  • Routinely monitors analytical results for active ingredient production and raw materials, investigates deviations from the norm, and communicates directly with site leadership, analysts and operators;
  • Advises leadership when issues with product quality exist;
  • Identifies and recommends new ways to save money by streamlining site processes;
  • Develops, implements, and maintains all laboratory control schemes;
  • Provides mass spectral analyses using a variety of ionization techniques to identify and/or quantify contaminants, impurities, or unknowns with no assistance;
  • Leads investigations of product complaints by proposing action plans and providing analytical testing;

Required Qualifications:

  • Mentor other team members in problem solving, and in improving team productivity and efficiency. Periodically reviews data and communicates and discusses any errors with the analysts involved;
  • Think independently and develop imaginative and unique solutions to problems;
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be adept at working with all levels of employees, management and vendors. Able to lead by example and cooperates with other team members to optimize productivity and prioritization. Express ideas and information orally or in writing, in a clear, concise and understandable manner, use active listening skills;
  • Undergraduate degree; Bachelors of Science; Masters of Science; or PHD;
  • Ability to diagnose and correct typical instrument problems with no assistance and provide some basic repairs and assistance to others;
  • Experience in developing, validating, and writing analytical methods using a variety of analytical equipment such as HPLC, GC, acid base and potentiometric titrations, XRF, ion chromatography, ICP, UV/VIS spectroscopy, FTIR, mass spectrometers, and physical testing equipment. Understands and can explain basic operation of the above analytical instrumentation;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Chemistry (or related field) with three years laboratory experience;
  • Ph.D. in chemistry or related field.
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (or related field) with five years laboratory experience;
  • Four year Undergraduate nonscientific degree and ten years directly applicable laboratory experience;
