Job Description
Investment & Project Finance Senior Analyst (AIFA)


At ENGIE, we are investing today in the low carbon energy systems of tomorrow. We are committed to accelerating the transition towards a carbon-neutral world and we have set our targets accordingly. Our 2030 goals include building an additional 80 GW of Renewables, adding 8 GW of low carbon distributed energy infrastructure, 10 GW of batteries, and developing 4 GW of Green Hydrogen capacity. To realize these ambitions, we plan to invest between $24-28 billion of growth Capex over 2023-2025.


North America is one of the key geographic priorities of ENGIE and should make up a significant share of the Group’s growth capital to be deployed. We are therefore seeking to reinforce our US based Acquisitions, Investments and Financial Advisory (“AIFA”) team with talented Investment & Project Finance professionals.


The AIFA team plays a key role in reconciling ENGIE’s growth ambitions and long-term shareholder value creation objectives. Our role is to provide valuation and structuring guidance throughout the business development process and to secure the most competitive sources of funding for our projects.


The AIFA North America team is constituted of 20 investment specialists, located in Houston, TX and Chicago, IL. On a yearly basis the team typically works on over 100 investment files representing more than $20 billion of gross investments, raises $1 billion+ of Tax Equity, $0.5 billion+ of Common or Structured Equity, and $1+ billion of Project Finance or other forms of non-recourse financing.


What you’ll do:


Main Responsibilities


  • Work with internal stakeholders to provide valuation and structuring guidance throughout the business development process
  • Manage interactions with internal project stakeholders and external financial partners to drive the implementation of investment and acquisition financing plans. Senior team members will drive the structuring, negotiating, and execution of transactions and cultivate relationships with financial investors and/or lenders
  • Develop business cases and provide supporting financial analyses to ENGIE’s Investment Committees for greenfield investment and Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) projects
  • Team members of all levels of seniority will develop and maintain detailed financial models for each transaction from the start of the development process through the successful closing of an investment or acquisition


Specific Job Functions


  • Develop creative financing strategies and drive the process of securing the most competitive sources of funding for our projects
  • Manage multiple parties including banks, consultants, lawyers as well as internal stakeholders to bring transactions to successful close
  • Lead as the finance single point of contact for the investment business case, centralizing accounting, tax, treasury, and corporate finance requirements
  • Present investment opportunities to ENGIE leadership, defend project economics and risks in review committees, and prepare the financial analysis required for Investment Committee
  • Manage internal stakeholders to maintain financial model assumptions, while retaining responsibility for the accuracy and correct incorporation of relevant inputs to such models
  • Negotiate the key financial terms of the transaction documents
  • Lead the financial modeling and analysis supporting investment decisions for project development and acquisition opportunities
  • Actively contribute to the development of the AIFA team
  • Develop and document financing, valuation, and modeling best practices
  • Provide valuation and structuring guidance throughout the business development process, advising on commercial agreements, risk allocation, bankability of contracts, financing alternatives, and expected investment returns
  • Actively engage with prospective counterparties to clarify project valuation, risk allocation, assumptions and market perspectives
  • Identify and articulate main project economic and financial risks, advise on appropriate mitigation factors, and define appropriate contingencies
  • Coach and mentor junior members of the team
  • Organize and conduct the process for financial partner/lender selection, including preparing teasers, CIMs, and participating in the outreach


What you bring:


Requirements


  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and utilizing detailed financial models, including a project finance, and accounting component
  • Experience conducting investment analysis in the clean energy sector at a developer, fund, bank, or consultant
  • A minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience
  • Masters, MBA, CFA, CPA, and/or equivalent certifications are an advantage
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Accounting, or Engineering


Considered as an advantage


  • Strong understanding of GAAP and IFRS accounting topics
  • Knowledge of Tax Equity structures and IRS requirements
  • Experience structuring and closing M&A and/or financing transactions, including reviewing, and negotiating legal documentation
  • Knowledge of the US merchant power markets drivers and hedging instruments

  • Ability to travel via airplane, car, and train as required
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

  • Ability to use a company computer to communicate via email and create presentations
