The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for an Agriculture Program Specialist with Noxious Weeds in the Plant Division located in Twin Falls.

Example of Duties


  • Oversee noxious weed program activities and temporary seasonal work crew
  • Provide consultation on problem identification and resolution
  • Respond to inquiries
  • Conduct noxious weed survey (aquatic weed and terrestrial weeds)
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements. Ability to communicate effects of changes in laws, rules, and regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Use knowledge of GIS mapping and data collection to measure project effectiveness.
  • Primary contact for the noxious weed program with clients outside the agency in the assigned area
  • Primary area of focus is on the Noxious Weeds program, with additional duties in the Invasive Species program, depending on workload demands
  • Manage, maintain, and distribute program equipment
  • Plan, implement, evaluate, and coordinate Noxious Weed program activities for assigned region
  • A cell phone with an Idaho area code, furnished by the employee, is required for this position and is eligible for reimbursement under the Cell Phone Reimbursement policy
  • Compile and analyze data and information to identify program and service needs and available resources
  • Assist with statewide mapping and data coordination program for use in tracking, evaluating, and reviewing the effectiveness of programs
  • Assess training needs and develop and present training programs for service providers and clients
  • Educate the public on laws and government regulations on the principles of integrated pest management; safe, proper, and effective use of herbicides and pesticides and direct efforts of technical weed control personnel


Minimum Qualifications

Experience


  • Reviewing laws, regulations, policies and/or procedures for compliance or explaining to others how they apply to specific situations;
  • Developing written technical reports or correspondence evaluating agricultural, science or business related issues;
  • Planning or providing agriculture program services.


Specialty Areas: These qualifications are mandatory requirements.


  • Experience developing and making oral presentations before groups.
  • With or without a reasonable accommodation, the ability to stand, swim and work in very cold water for eight or more hours per shift, lift and move material weighing up to 60 pounds, climb on and off transport trucks, and work in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license;
  • Considerable knowledge of noxious weeds;


Supplemental Information


Temporary appointments from this announcement, serving at least one thousand forty (1,040) hours of continuous service, may be hired as an entrance probationary employee without further examination for the same classification and location as announced.
