Position Details:

Summary of Duties: This position will lead regional agriculture Extension education and farm economic development programming and oversee education program employees. They will consult with stakeholder organizations to plan programs and be responsible as part of a team for extramural fund development. The specialist will develop learning packages, and research and develop material for training aids and media. They will serve as liaison among agencies, local government, the farming community, and other NGO partners on program development, implementation, and evaluation. Work will include both Extension education and community economic development programs, including direct community education and coordinating educational and capacity-building aspects of regional agriculture industry workforce development.

The position will be centrally involved in program and budget development, management, and leadership. Program oversight work includes evaluating public/community understanding and need to develop appropriate programs, advising top management, documenting and reporting qualitative and quantitative program outcomes across multiple timeframes, and assessing public/partner response to Extension programs and policies.

Additional tasks will include hiring, supervising, evaluating staff, maintaining regional community partnerships, advising County and regional leadership regarding program investments, opportunities, outcomes, and best practices, and communicating program activities to stakeholders, funders, and others.

Required Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel within targeted counties.
  • While using a private or WSU-owned vehicle for official business, must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in RCW 46.30.020and RCW 46.29.090).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of WSU Business Policies and Procedures in the areas of personnel, finance, and administration.
  • Experience in higher education, local or state agency, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and Workday.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively, with persons of varying levels of responsibility and experience, both orally and in writing.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
