Job Description
The Office of Admissions seeks an energetic, flexible, and detailed-oriented person for the Admissions Counselor position. Reporting to the Senior Director of Admission, this person recruits prospective students and meets enrollment goals for one or more of Oglethorpe University’s degree programs through regional recruitment, on-campus and virtual programs, and project work. Recruitment travel will be focused in metro-Atlanta, Fulton County, Texas and the Southeastern region.


Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assist with and attend all on-campus events
  • Maintain sustained communication with all prospective students and families, high school counselors
  • Critically evaluate applicants for admission based on Oglethorpe’s institutional priorities and goals
  • Intentionally develop and maintain strategic relationships with high school counselors
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Ensure the accuracy of data in our CRM
  • Create a warm and inclusive atmosphere on-campus
  • Advise and consult with prospective students and families on admission to Oglethorpe
  • Follow up with students and families at all stages of the admission cycle to reach enrollment goals
  • Engage in intentional and continual learning about the offerings of an Oglethorpe education and best practices in the field of Admission
  • Answer questions thoughtfully and thoroughly for families; provide exceptional customer service
  • Develop a comprehensive prospect pool in your territory
  • Manage all aspects of recruitment for an assigned geographic territory
  • Review and evaluate applicants for admission
  • Use data from our CRM to strategically schedule and participate in high school visits and college fairs
  • Serve as an ambassador of the Oglethorpe University brand at all times
  • Deliver contextually appropriate presentations and visit experiences


Minimum Qualifications


  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent communication (verbal, written, and digital) and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor's degree and 1 year of work experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Ability to work in a fluid environment, prioritize goals, and independently manage multiple, diverse, competing priorities while meeting deadlines.


Additional Information


  • Position tasks are generally required to be performed in person. Work-from-home options may be granted at the supervisors’ discretion. Oglethorpe reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to the employee.
  • Working evenings and some weekends required
  • A valid driver’s license and personal automobile are required.
  • Some heavy lifting may be required.
  • This is a full-time, 12-month position with extensive travel.
