The Lead and Influence Foundational Education (LIFE) Core Curriculum at St. Catherine University invites applications for Adjunct Faculty for the 2023-2024 academic year.
The Lead and Influence Foundational Education (LIFE) Core Curriculum is the foundation of undergraduate education at St. Catherine University, as well as the manifestation of the University’s women-centered mission to educate the next generation of leaders by developing their full potential as confident, insightful, and collaborative problem solvers capable of applying the concepts and methods of the Liberal Arts toward the work of social justice in their communities and the world.
Adjunct opportunities include teaching either of two discussion-based, writing-intensive courses, both capped at 20 students per section and offered in either in-person or online formats:
  • CORE 1000W “The Reflective Woman” (TRW) is required for all first-year students in the College for Women and the College for Adults. TRW uses a shared set of readings and writing assignments to foster critical thinking, reflection, communication, and other foundational academic skills.
  • CORE 3990W “Global Search for Justice” (GSJ) builds on TRW by inviting students to examine an issue, selected by the instructor, through a social justice lens, culminating in a substantial written project.

Applicants must have a master’s degree in hand (or be enrolled in a doctoral program with master’s level equivalency) by no later than two weeks before the first day of classes for the term. In addition, because these courses are intended for all undergraduate students regardless of major, applicants should have expertise or experience teaching similar discussion-based, writing-intensive courses. Applicants with a doctoral or terminal degree and/or two years experience teaching such courses are preferred.
Responsibilities for adjunct faculty course instructors:
  • Establish office hours to accommodate student needs.
  • Develop and demonstrate learner-centered strategies aligned with the University’s commitment to Inclusive Excellence.
  • Provide timely and frequent feedback to students on their progress toward student learning outcomes.
  • Refer students to support services as appropriate.
  • Teach one or two classes on a semester basis in in-person or online environments.
  • Attend faculty development workshops.

Committed to excellence and opportunity, St. Catherine enrolls students in certificate, associate, baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral programs in traditional day and evening/weekend/online formats.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to teach in a traditional classroom setting or in an online setting.
  • Master’s degree or enrollment in a doctoral program with master’s level equivalency.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral level or terminal degree.
  • Experience teaching and mentoring students of all different backgrounds and cultures
  • Experience leading discussion-based courses with a significant amount of writing.

We seek creative, adaptable faculty and staff who enjoy working in a university climate that promotes cultural diversity, multicultural understanding, and cultural fluency. Consistent with the university’s commitment to women, diversity and social justice, preference will be given to candidates who manifest these themes in their experience and service.

EEO Statement

Should you need an interview accommodation please contact us at [email protected] or 651-690-6565.

Application instructions for FACULTY
Submit an application online to be contacted by our department. Successful completion of a background check will be required for employment. Official transcripts are required in order for us to comply with accreditation requirements.
Given the way campus life inherently puts people in close proximity to each other, including residence and dining halls, classrooms, and gatherings, the University has determined that a vaccination requirement is the best way to keep our community safe and prevent potential outbreaks as we return to more regular, in-person operations. St. Catherine University is requiring all students, faculty (including adjuncts contracted for the fall semester and beyond), staff, and residents age 12 and older to complete their COVID-19 vaccination series, including a booster, unless the University approves a medical or religious accommodation or other accommodation/exemptionas required by applicable law. New employees must submit vaccination documentation or be approved for an exemption/accommodation before beginning work. For more information, visit stkate.edu/coronavirus-info/vaccine.
