Job Description

PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS: Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Random background checks are performed. Credit checks may be performed on candidates/employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) may be performed during the hiring process, or as part of a random check. MVR checks are required to meet insurance requirements for those employees operating a university vehicle or participating in any driving activity on behalf of Brenau University, (including operating a golf cart, rented vehicle or one’s personal vehicle). Employees who travel must be at least 25 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. All employees who operate university vehicles, who are employed in a sensitive position, or who travel regularly as part of their job responsibilities may be subject to post-hire drug screening and random drug-screening. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening.

The Brenau University Department for Art & Design is looking for adjuncts to teach regular classes as part of the Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising programs on the Historic Gainesville Campus.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Evidence of proficiency with Microsoft software and Google applications
  • Evidence of professional collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud products
  • Master’s degree in fashion design, costume design or related field
  • Demonstrated potential for effective teaching and scholarship


Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of attention to cultural diversity in teaching
  • Ability to teach the Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign)
  • Evidence of effective and innovative teaching in traditional, online, and/or hybrid environments
  • Experience in the fashion industry
  • Terminal degree in fashion design, costume design or related field
  • Ability to teach CAD/Assyst software


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the Fashion Design and Fashion Merchandising programs by networking with industry for internships, employment, and professional development opportunities for students
  • Teach undergraduate courses in Gainesville, such as Apparel Construction Patterning and Draping, Fashion Design Studio, Fashion Design Process and Practice, as well as the potential to teach Art and Design foundations classes and/or Digital Graphic Design
  • Occasionally teach workshops to students and Brenau Community members
  • Opportunity to teach Fashion Merchandising courses online, such as Fashion Buying/Retail Math.
  • Occasionally, participate in recruitment events and play an active role in social media highlighting the department

Physical Demands and Aptitudes:

Able to lift 5 pounds on a regular basis and 20 pounds maximum, periodically.
