Position Summary

The Department of Radiation Oncology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is seeking an Academic Dosimetrist to join the Department of Radiation Oncology. The Department is a member of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center with over $25 million in funding from the NIH and dedicated to an integrated, patient-focused approach to cancer research, treatment, support, prevention, education, and outreach.

The ACR-accredited Department of Radiation Oncology is supported by nine (9) board-certified Medical Physicists (6 Ph.D., 3 M.S.). The New York City location has three (3) conventional linear accelerators: a Varian Trilogy and two Varian TrueBeams. In addition, a Varian Ethos adaptive radiotherapy system is utilized for both adaptive and conventional IGRT. All platforms support IGRT via CBCT / kV or MV onboard imaging. A wide variety of technology facilitating special procedures are housed in the Department: Elekta Icon GammaKnife for intracranial radiosurgery, Zeiss IntraBeam for intraoperative radiotherapy, and Best Novoste for vascular brachytherapy. Varian solutions provide routine high-dose-rate (gynecological, intracavitary, and interstitial) and low-dose-rate (prostate) brachytherapy treatments. The Department utilizes a GE LightSpeed for patient simulation. The Department’s two (2) satellite facilities house an Accuray TomoTherapy system, an additional Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator, and on-site CT or PET/CT simulation capabilities. Treatment planning systems include Varian Eclipse, BrachyVision, EthosTPS, and VariSeed. Varian Velocity is used for deformable image registrations and RadCalc / ClearCalc for secondary dose calculations. Varian’s ARIA suite serves as the Department’s record and verification system.

This includes 3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT, and SBRT treatment techniques for various sites and treatment platforms. Opportunities for TBI, TSE, SRS, and brachytherapy treatment planning are available but not a part of general position responsibilities.
  • Academic responsibilities shall consist of supporting (a) the growth of the Ethos adaptive radiotherapy program, (b) radiation oncology and medical physics residency program didactics, and (c) treatment planning-centric research initiatives (clinical trials and development projects).
