The primary function of this role is to provide direct service and support to new, and prospective students in a 100% online degree program at the University of Toledo. These include such responsibilities as online course selection, financial aid, advising, career planning, social, educational, and co-curricular activities that will enhance the student experience online students. Services will involve onboarding new undergraduate, graduate, and professional program students, advising for 100% online degree programs, individual needs assessment and educational planning/goal setting, monitoring student success, providing referral and intervention as needed. This position will also assist in the prospective student communication for all online student avenues at the university.
This position will be expected to continuously evaluate and improve the current onboarding program for new 100% online undergraduate, graduate, and professional program students from admit to their first registration. This position will work with undergraduate, graduate, and professional program online students to increase student yield rates during their first semester at The University of Toledo. The coordinator will also be expected to stay current with trends and innovations in online/adult learning and provide leadership in continuously improving student success and retention. This position will also be expected to present current information on their roster of students, including both quantitative and qualitative information that will aid in the continued development of Online Operation’s goal of improving yield rates and student success.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/experience/licensing:Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Web Report Library and BANNER highly preferred.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in an Academic Advising office, or related student services office, in an educational setting. (Includes experience as a Graduate Assistant)

Desired Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong listening and organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills essential. Ability to think creatively and strategically.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Direct academic advising experience with undergraduate, graduate and professional program student populations
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish relationships and collaborate collegially and effectively with diverse students, staff, faculty, administrators, and the community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, and methods of evidence-based academic advising strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage work independently, supervise staff effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in interpreting student needs and determine when referral to other University resources is appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications:

Earned Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Communication, Social Sciences or related field preferred. Experience with adult and online students preferred.
