About the Role

We are currently seeking a talented 2DFX Artist to join our creative team at Steamroller IP. As an integral part of our team, you will have the opportunity to push the boundaries of real-time graphics and filmmaking, combining high-end CG with the artistic style of classic 2D feature films. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing visually stunning special effects that enhance the atmosphere and depth of our films. Your expertise will bring to life the unique worlds we are creating, utilizing your skills in drawing, painting, animation, and modeling. ATTENTION: This is a full-time position that may be remote/onsite/hybrid.

Responsibilities

  • Iterate on your work based on feedback from art directors and supervisors.
  • Meet project deadlines and communicate effectively with the production team.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in various craft skills, including drawing, painting, and animation.
  • Design and implement dynamic special effects that add depth and atmosphere to our films.
  • Provide creative solutions to overcome production challenges.
  • Collaborate with the Unreal and Compositing teams to optimize workflow and pipeline.
  • Understand the importance of effects in the moviemaking process and integrate them accordingly.
  • Create hand-drawn, stylized effects that seamlessly integrate with CG footage.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as an FX artist in games, film, or TV.
  • Proficient in Toon Boom Harmony (experience preferred).
  • Openness to new technologies and innovative thinking.
  • Basic understanding of light, color, and design principles.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Unity, Unreal, or similar game engine VFX tools.

Physical Requirements

  • While not guaranteed, some day-to-day activities may involve bending, stooping, twisting, reaching above and/or below the shoulder, and/or lifting/carrying/moving work-related equipment.
  • Vision sufficient to read source materials and computer screen data.
  • Clear speaking and adequate hearing, sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in person, via video conference, and/or on the telephone.
  • Repetitive motions for computer equipment use.
  • Handling/grasping documents or office equipment.
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Work is to be performed primarily in an office/home-office environment using standard office equipment.

To apply, please submit a portfolio or demo reel showcasing your 2D visual effects skills, including examples of hand-drawn effects, CG integration, and other relevant work. Candidates may also be required to complete a test or provide samples tailored to the specific requirements of the Steamroller IP team.
