Position Summary

Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept
The OHSU-PSU School of Public Health (SPH) is aligned with the American Public Health Association in declaring racism a public health crisis, and our School is committed to becoming an antiracist SPH. Certificate of Human Lactation is located within the
OHSU-PSU-School of Public Health. Students can obtain a standalone certificate or pursue as part of their undergraduate work in the School of Public Health.

Position Summary
This position would teach Lactation Education courses in the School of Public Health undergraduate program. This position will be shared the first year and be posted for up to 14 credits beginning fall term 2022. The live stream class is scheduled fall term at 9:30-12:45 Wednesday mornings and the remote only asynchronous class begins winter term 2023. There will be the ability to add additional credits if desired for advising.
The following year, instructor will teach an expanded load of a full 20 credits and teach the class independently with some technical support locally if instructor is working remotely out of state. Classes are taught in person, online and/or in a hybrid format.
  • Design and instruct Lactation Education courses utilizing current and evidence based information, as outlined in the IBLCE ClinicalCompetencies, the LEAARC and CAAHEP Accreditation Standards, the IBLCE DetailedContent Outline, and the Core Curriculum for Interdisciplinary Lactation Care.
  • Instruct weekly distance learning course and evaluate student work.
  • Facilitate one in-person/live stream weekend series of classes each term to provide students with in-depth content instruction and skill development.
  • Regularly communicate with students and invested community members regarding class updates and opportunities in the lactation field.
  • Will collaborate with the current Lactation faculty team on course text, course design and will team teach for an orientation period.
Participate in selection process of Pathway 2 Lactation students including application review and interviews.
  • Advise prospective students via in-person, virtual or phone advising appointments and through the lactation program email.
  • Participate on the Lactation Advisory Board
  • Provide an information session twice a year (via live webinar) for prospective students.

Minimum Qualifications
  • IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant) re-certified at least one time
  • Teaching and/or precepting experience in lactation
BSN/RN or Master’s degree


Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in course design and assessment
  • Experience aligning accreditation requirements with curriculum
  • Able to travel to Portland OR quarterly for in-person course components
  • Extensive lactation support experience working in diverse settings (community and clinical)
  • Familiarity with distance learning teaching formats and designing virtual learning experiences

Compensation
$1120 per credit hour per PSUFA Collective Bargaining Agreement
