Under the direction of the Attending Veterinarian, uses veterinary knowledge and skills to support university research and teaching endeavors.

Experience in lab animal medicine, preferably within a university setting.

Health care and procedural experience with laboratory rodents and nonhuman primates.

Experience in many common surgical procedures used in animal research.

Evidence of effective teamwork and group communication skills, as these are key elements in this environment.

Working with Scientific Operations Management to ensure AAALACi accreditation status is upheld

Working knowledge of GxP requirements as related to research & manufacturing

Offering group presentations and/or 1:1 hands-on training for Alexion staff

Knowledge of plant and animal organisms, their tissues, cells, functions, interdependencies, and interactions with each other and the environment.

Experience in maintaining canine health records and canine international health certificates.

Experience with a microchip program that scans, reads and tracks canines.

Responsible for the overall health of canines CONUS and/or OCONUS.

Examine animals to detect the nature of diseases and/or injuries.

Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds, or performing surgery.

Commensurate with education and experience.

Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, and policies that govern the use of laboratory animals.

Working knowledge of laboratory animal husbandry and facilities.

Experience with IACUC work and teaching/training.

Previous experience at an NVA hospital is preferred

This position assists the veterinarians with management of the clinic.

Trains new staff, veterinary technician students, and volunteers as needed, and maintains licensure through continuing education.

Minimum of 1 years’ experience as veterinary technician in a zoological institution is preferred.

Degree in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology and graduation from an accredited Veterinary Technology Program or equivalent combination of training/experience required.

Ability to be a team player with excellent customer service skills required.
