Job Description
Overview:
M&T Bank is seeking a skilled and experienced z/OS Operating System Programmer to join our dynamic team in Buffalo, NY. As a z/OS Operating System Programmer, you will play a vital role in maintaining and supporting our mainframe infrastructure, ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of our z/OS operating system..
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform installation, customization, and maintenance of z/OS operating system software, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and security standards.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, trends, and industry best practices related to z/OS operating systems.
  • Implement and maintain system automation tools and processes, enhancing system efficiency and reducing manual effort.
  • Monitor and apply operating system and ISV patches, fixes, and upgrades, ensuring system integrity and compatibility with other software components.
  • Support expert system-level debugging, troubleshooting, and problem resolution, working closely with application developers, systems administrators, and other technical teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and maintain system software components, including system exits, SVC routines, and other subsystems.
  • Conduct regular system audits and security assessments, identifying vulnerabilities and implementing appropriate measures to mitigate risks.
  • Support deep system-level configuration updates such as LPAR builds, HMC navigation, IODF and HCD updates and USS administration
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including system configuration, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Monitor system performance and identify opportunities for optimization, applying appropriate system tuning and performance improvement techniques.
Education and Experience Required:
Combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or related work experience
Strong experience as a z/OS Operating System Programmer, including installation, customization, and maintenance of z/OS operating system software.
Proficiency in programming languages such as JCL, REXX, Assembler, SAS and PL/I.
n-depth knowledge of z/OS operating system internals, subsystems, and components.
Experience with system performance tuning, capacity planning, and performance analysis tools.
Familiarity with mainframe security concepts, such as RACF or ACF2.
Ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex system-level issues, collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Education and Experience Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
