DIVISION OF YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES
CITY OF WORCESTER

PENDING FUNDING APPROVAL

The City of Worcester seeks applicants for the position of Youth Worker Coaches for the Recreation Worcester Summer 2023 Program in the Division of Youth Opportunities. The position is responsible for program development, staff training, conflict resolution, family engagement, staff supervision and the continued positive youth development of staff and youth participants. The Site Coordinators will work with the Youth Opportunities Division to support staff in the implementation of athletic, academic, arts and social emotional learning programs for various age groups through a trauma-informed lens. Work will be performed with considerable independent judgment, creativity, and initiative. This position will be filled based on funding.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with students with special education/emotional needs
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to multitask
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships and networking skills with participants, families, colleagues, and community members at various park sites during the summer programming
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • To actively supervise, coach, and share progress of Positive Youth Development (PYD) techniques implemented by staff
  • The coach will act as liaisons between research and practice
  • Facilitates conversations between among the heads/ ambassadors of their teams and trains the trainer in their given specialization
  • Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the ever-changing needs of the City's youth programming
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, organizations, and interests

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate’s Degree in Human Services or related field
  • One (1) year of administrative experience
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Two (2) years of staff supervision experience
  • Experience working with children and families from diverse cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities
  • Experience with youth development work
  • Must pass a criminal background check (CORI & SORI)

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience creating restorative circles
  • Experience providing positive youth development workshops
  • Experience creating conflict resolution workshops

SALARY: $25.00 hourly, seasonal, non-benefitted.
