Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Behavioral Health Springboard (BHS) at the School of Social Work, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill links current research to initiatives in mental health and substance use disorder treatment systems. BHS offers curricula development, technical assistance, program consultation, and face-to-face and online educational programs. Collaboration between the university and the community (local, regional/state, global) is mutually beneficial for the exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity. These exchanges enrich scholarship and research; enhance curriculum, teaching and learning; prepare educated, engaged citizens; strengthen values and civic responsibility; address critical societal issues; and contribute to the public good. Our training resources, products, and experienced staff help organizations design effective service delivery systems and assist with the transitions needed to implement evidenced based practices for improved client outcomes and systems efficiencies.
Position Summary
The Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) Coordinator is a time limited position (1 year) will report to the Mental Health First Aid Program Director and will be primarily responsible for implementation of the youth and teen Mental Health First Aid training programs in youth-serving community-based organizations (eg, public schools, charter schools, private school, community centers, non-profits). This position will assemble and organize training resources for participants, scheduling, coordinate YMHFA Instructor events, implement program evaluation activities, disseminate marketing materials, and support efforts to achieve program sustainability. The YMHFA Coordinator will support ongoing youth and teen MHFA trainings. This position will work closely with the Adult MHFA Coordinator to engage the UNC campus community in YMHFA and Teen MHFA training events for youth-serving academic programs and units across campus. This is a time-limited position in the non-faculty track and funding is guaranteed through September 30, 2024. This position will be located in Chapel Hill and will require 25% travel across NC. Both virtual and in-person residential trainings will be required, in accordance with UNC CH COVID-19 Community Standards.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
The position requires 1 year of progressively responsible program development and/or project management experience.
Minimum of one year experience in direct service delivery with school behavioral health programs or initiatives.
Ability to manage workload both independently and collaboratively without immediate direct supervision.
Ability to think critically and use conflict resolution skills to solve complex logistical problems involving diverse populations (schools, community-based nonprofits, university).
Approachable, calm style encourages open communication across stakeholders
Certified Youth and Teen MHFA Instructor or have the capacity to become certified within the first 60 days of hire.
Minimum of one year experience in direct service delivery with school behavioral health programs or initiatives.
Ability to manage workload both independently and collaboratively without immediate direct supervision.
Ability to think critically and use conflict resolution skills to solve complex logistical problems involving diverse populations (schools, community-based nonprofits, university).
Approachable, calm style encourages open communication across stakeholders
