POSITION SUMMARY

The Youth Coordinator is a key member of our Workforce Development and Youth team and will support the Mayor’s Office in the areas of policy, programming, initiatives, and advocacy for youth/young adults ages 14-30. This role will staff the design, coordination, development, creation, and implementation of initiatives, policies, and practices aimed at increasing youth engagement and inclusion in the City of Pittsburgh. Two of the primary responsibilities of this role will be (1) to establish, maintain, and lead a Youth Commission and (2) coordinate the City’s partnership in the Learn & Earn Program in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Partnership and Partner4Work. This role works closely with the Workforce Development and Youth Manager, the Deputy Chief of Staff, and the Chief of Staff on execution of their duties.

Qualifying Requirements:

Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.

  • WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show three (3) years of full-time related work experience in either youth programming, project management, local government, community organizing, social work and/or workforce development. (Full-time is defined as 32 hours or more per week. Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
  • EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). The Total Qualifying Requirement is seven (7) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training.)
  • EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Work, Political Science, Social Science or other closely related field. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training.)

POSITION DUTIES

The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the employee in this position, but are not all-inclusive. The omission of specific duties and responsibilities will not preclude it from the position.

  • Supports workforce development strategy and implementation for youth/young adults ages 14-30.
  • Identifies and assesses “Best Practices” regionally and nationally.
  • Develops project and initiative plans.
  • Provides policy support related to youth initiatives and programming.
  • Advises on engagement and inclusion of youth/young adults ages 14-30 in City government.
  • Collaborates with colleagues, especially the Education Coordinator, on appropriate projects.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned or required.
  • Assists in production of documents and publications.
  • Establishes, maintains, and leads a Youth Commission, including the related staffing and implementation items.
  • Coordinates the City’s partnership in the Learn & Earn program working in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Partnership and Partner4Work, including program improvements, recruitment, fundraising, and supporting relationship management.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, and implements programming, activities, and supports for youth related efforts.
  • Serves as a representative of the Mayor’s Office on behalf of youth voice, both internally and externally.
