JOB SUMMARY

POET is one of the largest container shipper, exporting feed products to more than 20 countries. We are excited to have recently acquired a rail-to-container transload facility in Savannah, Georgia! By expanding our footprint, we will continue to drive consistency and demand within several of POET’s key markets for Dakota Gold and NexPro animal feed. The Yard Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the Transload Operators and for creating a positive and safe work environment. The Yard Supervisor plans, directs, and coordinates the daily operations of the yard Team members in this position strive to maximize efficiencies in terminal operations and support operations through problem solving, adaptation, and working with other teams to correct problems.

 

The Terminal operates Monday - Saturday. This position may need to support weekend shifts - either by being onsite or through on call support.

 

DURING A TYPICAL DAY (IF THERE IS ONE)…

  • Request and support execution of yard maintenance.
  • Coordinate effective communication with other teams to ensure safe, efficient and continuous operation.
  • Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.
  • Supervise the development of Transload Operators through skills progression, update procedures and train team members.
  • Maintain and operate all processes associated with the terminal yard including rail movements, conveyors, bulk-weighers, control room equipment, hard-car unloaders, jockey trucks and mobile container stackers.
  • Supervise terminal yard operations.
  • Perform or supervise preventative and proactive maintenance tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ensure all daily documentation and required terminal yard information is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Since we’re all about teamwork and getting the job done, your skill may be put to a lot of other uses!
  • Strive for maximum safety and efficiency in terminal yard operations, troubleshoot and work with all departments to correct problems.
  • Assure compliance with all company, State and Federal regulatory agency policies and rules; assist in implementing approved changes.
  • Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Contact the appropriate department manager with problems/concerns; call in additional team members if needed.
  • Make terminal yard process decisions including shutting yard equipment down if necessary.
  • Effectively manage your team by partnering with leadership to recruit, select, onboard, and train team members. Leadership responsibilities also include delegation, coaching and performance management and career development to effectively execute terminal strategies and support company objectives.
  • Develop an understanding of repair and maintenance of terminal yard equipment and may need to ensure documentation of all maintenance activities.

 

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; secondary education preferred.
  • 3 years of previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
  • You have the ability to understand technical and day to day operation of a bioprocessing facility.
  • You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs.
  • You communicate effectively in writing and in person.
  • Terminal, production, operational, or manufacturing experience is required; operational background in transload terminal is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Pushing brooms, shovels, etc.
  • Walking up to two (2) or more miles per day.
  • Specific physical requirements may include:
    • Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds.
    • Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
    • Occasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds.
    • Data entry while seated for greater than one (1) hour.
    • Walking up to two (2) or more miles per day.
    • Pushing brooms, shovels, etc.
    • Working at heights, in confined spaces and at temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees.
    • Standing for extended periods of time.
    • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • The work environment at POET is dynamic. You should expect a balance between time spent in the office and in the terminal, which may include some physical labor helping your team members.
  • Occasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds.
