Opportunity Summary

The Yard Supervisor leads a group of 10 to 15 personnel engaged in operating and maintaining equipment involved in the sampling, storage and transfer of coal and lime to energy production equipment, flue gas desulfurization (FGD) equipment and the transfer and final storage and disposition of process by-products.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing daily operation of the lime unloading and gypsum conveyance systems for the flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems.
  • Coordinating contractor activities as needed
  • Communicating with fuel procurement and vendors regarding bulk material requirements
  • Coordinating and directing the majority of the maintenance activities at the coal yard and the applicable FGD system, including conveyors, belts, breakers, barge unloaders, rail unloaders, limes unloading, heavy equipment and other associated equipment
  • Maintaining responsibility for river fleet operation, rail and truck traffic involved in handling of bulk material, unloading of ammonia and other responsibilities as assigned
  • Supervising bulk material handling employees
  • Leading personnel in the operation and maintenance of station bulk material handling systems
  • Maintaining responsibility for safety and training of bulk material handling employees

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include heavy physical work, standing on feet for extended periods requiring stair and ladder climbing, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Must have the ability to wear personal protective equipment (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, respirator, self-contained breathing apparatus, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.

Must have the ability and willingness to work in high places and confined spaces.

Must be comfortable working around barges and the river, at heights, and in tunnels as needed

Work Schedule

This position works 12 hour rotating shifts with 2 days on then 2 days off with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. Flexibility in working shift schedules, temporary schedules and extended hours. "On call" status will periodically be required.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the project.

Compensation

The initial compensation will range from $85,000 - $101,000.

Job Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to operate motor vehicles safely
  • Knowledge of federal, state and regulatory policies and procedures in reference to environmental and safety
  • Ability to interpret and to apply company policies, operating rules, procedures and practices
  • Effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills that include Microsoft applications
  • Effective leadership skills to direct the work of others, ensuring safety and producing satisfactory work results
  • Formal technical training with a minimum of 5 years practical experience preferably in the utility field, heavy industry, or prior military experience and training. Two year technical degree, preferably in power plant operations, or equivalent career related skills, education and experience.
  • Must be respirator certifiable
  • Knowledge of electric utility steam generating power plant operations
