X-RAY TECHNOLOGIST

Schedule: Part time - Weekdays - Tuesday Availability Required - with option to work weekends.

Location: Astoria, NY

Directly Reports to: Lead Radiologic Tech & Safety Officer

Direct Reports: N/A

Pay Range: $46-$51 Per Hour

Job Purpose:

Under the direction of the lead Radiologic Technologist, Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), managing partners and Interventional Radiology (IR) physician team, the Radiologic Technologist will act as principal component to the organization regarding radiation safety during interventional procedures. Responsibilities include - but not limited to - oversee technical equipment, radiation safety, image archiving and intraoperative safety, as well as, interventional department quality assurance programs. Act as main clinical component for all X-ray related procedural activities while promoting philosophy of organization and ensuring quality, safety and continuity of care.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties as a Radiologic Technologist
  • Documentation of contrast usage, fluoroscopy time/dose and dosimeter readings.
  • Participate with Per-Operative assistant and circulator in room set up and turn over
  • Maintenance of lead aprons, thyroid collars and other radiation safety equipment.
  • Provide optimal fluoroscopic imaging during procedure
  • Record and archive fluoroscopic images of the procedure
  • Assist in optimizing patient positioning for radiographic imaging
  • Ensuring fluoroscope is properly handled, cleaned, stored and maintained – including quality assurance.
  • Promoting As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) concept and cardinal principles of radiation safety – time, distance and shielding.
  • Ensure Radiation Safety measures are in place and optimized prior to procedure start
  • Patient identification, patient chart review and radiographs for consistency and records pertinent data at all times.
  • Train new technologist staff on clinical and quality assurance processes.
  • Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images and ensures proper identification on all images.
  • Promotes teamwork, professionalism, positive interpersonal communication and high-quality patient care.
  • Assist in overseeing Perioperative Safety program and Quality Assurance program regarding interventional procedures – including but not limited to:
  • Serve as an expert resource to staff for all X-ray related clinical activities.
  • Radiation safety compliance (all applicable staff).
  • Assess patient condition and ensure patient positional safety through proper use of supportive devices.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all patient related information.
  • General safety practices (all applicable staff).
  • Work collectively with interventional radiology (IR) team during clinical procedures on IR days – including but not limited to:
  • Be apprised of patient complaints and staff issues and report them to X-ray lead.
  • Ensure communications are clear and concise.
  • Contrast administration guidelines.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Moderate physical effort includes moving equipment, lifting and moving patients.
  • Possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions such as noise, chemicals, odorous gasses and dust.
  • Will incur limited occupation radiation exposure
  • Standing for a moderate portion of shift.
  • May be exposed to blood, body fluids/tissues and electromagnetic radiation as in video display terminals.
  • Wearing protective lead aprons and thyroid collars during examinations.
  • Will be performing some tasks within a controlled radiation area

Qualifications:

  • Strong Interpersonal Skills.
  • Exceptional organizational Skills.
  • Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification (BLS)
  • Current ARRT Certified Radiologic Technologist required.
  • Good Judgment
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Minimum of 1 year Radiologic Technologist experience.
