Job Description
Position Title: X-Ray Technician
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Director of Clinical Support via Lead X-Ray Technician
POSITION SUMMARY:

Schedules patients for radiology services. Takes x-ray images of specified body areas/parts as ordered, following established procedures. Maintains records and files and assists with other related duties.

RADIOLOGY ACTIVITIES
  • Understands the diversity of patient’s needs, and demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient.
  • Respects patient’s rights, preferences and privacy. Maintains confidentiality.
  • Performs the right diagnostic procedure and positions patients safely for the procedure.
  • Takes x-ray images and processes quality x-rays (i.e. clearly identified x-rays, correct x-rays,
  • Schedules patients for appointments.
  • Clear x-rays).
  • Maintains daily log of treatments.
OBSERVATION OF SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
  • Uses appropriate equipment for personal and patient safety including patient lifts, transfer boards and stepstools.
  • Practices safety guidelines required for safe mobility, transfer, proper body mechanics in the delivery of radiology services to patients and performance of job duties.
DEPARTMENTAL FUNCTIONS
  • Records work hours on a daily basis.
  • Assists the Lead X-ray Technician with maintaining radiological services in accordance with standards established by State and Federal authorities; makes suggestions and recommendations for improvements.
  • Performs clerical duties and other assignments.
  • Maintains records and reports per established schedule and procedures.
PROFESSIONALISM
  • Observes house rules and adheres to dress code.
  • Keeps self updated on hospital and department announcements, including updated policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates competence with technical skill review of procedures, treatments, and equipment usage.
  • Accountable to start and end work based on designated shift. When appropriate, obtains approval from the supervisor for changes and or variances.
  • Attends and participates in inservices, conferences and educational programs to assure continued professional growth and maintains education record.
  • Completes assignments within scheduled work hours.
  • Incorporates professionalism and demonstrates customer service in the daily delivery of care through positive communication with patients, visitors, and team members.
  • Complies with and updates yearly skills review per policy and timely completes requirements needed to maintain position and/or employment at REHAB.
  • Demonstrates commitment to quality services.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SCOPE OF PRACTICE:
The population served includes individuals affected by stroke, orthopedic related conditions, brain and spinal cord injury, amputation, major multiple trauma, and other neurological and medical conditions. REHAB’s patients range from pre-teen to geriatric age ranges. Patients are referred primarily from Hawaii.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Licensure:
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current State of Hawaii Radiographer licensure.

Education:
  • Completion of a formal radiologic training program.

Skills/Experience:
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Minimum one (1) year recent experience as an X-Ray Technician or Radiology Technologist in an acute care setting.
  • Ability to safely and effectively manage patients’ mobility.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Licensure:
  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist’s (ARRT)

Skills/Experience:
  • At least two (2) years recent experience as an X-Ray Technician in an acute care setting.
